DC METRO mark

Was in DC this past weekend and was trying to do some benchmark hunting using the phone app but there was too may people for the cell towers. Anyway I had remember a few locations I saw when the map was loaded and I kept a very watchful eye out while we were walking.

When we were leaving we stumbled on this mark so I took a picture and figured I would try to log it later.

 

 

Now I can't find it on geocaching.com or even on http://benchmarks.scaredycatfilms.com/

 

Could this be part of some DC METRO surveying mark system that is not included in NGS database?

Yes, exactly. It seems to be a "private" mark, and wouldn't be in the NGS database.

WMATA has a lot of those marks around - there's three within 100 feet of my office.

 

They're used, and new ones are put down, every time there's a construction project that they're involved with, OR if a private construction company is working adjacent to their property.
