I'v Come Unglued...

Recommended Posts

Howdy......

I have a couple of micro bison tube hides that are magnetic.

I have had the magnets come unglued twice.

I have been using GORILLA GLUE. Should I be using a 2 part epoxy?

Something else...?

Inquiring minds want to know......

THANKX!

I usually use a two part product like JB Weld.

I don't rely on glue. I have these all-weather adhesive tabs I use to adhere the magnets and then add another layer of security by wrapping the whole thing in camo tape to blend in better. They've all held up very well so far.

Try CA (Cyanoacrylate) glue, also called super glue. The actual gorilla glue is a bit different, but they do make CA glue. Depending on the brand, and the exact composition(some you can get from water like to thick gel, for thickness) it can be up to $8 for the plastic one But on drop should do you for almost anything.

I do have s few different adhesives in my tool box.

Before I retired I was in heavy truck and trailer parts and repair (39.5 yrs)

You probably have, or have used this...

If I recall, the black variety stays more pliable after curing, while the yellow solidifies fairly quickly.

I usually use a two part product like JB Weld.

JB Weld has worked well for me.

But .... I have also found that it is most important to rough up the surface with sandpaper first.

This also applies to painting Loc'n'Loc containers.

I know about 5200. I worked at a big boat repair place for a short time (Nielson Beaumont Marine,Shelter Island,San Diego)

We used a lot of 5200...IT IS STRONG!!! But,I ain't got none.

I fixed and re-hid it today (I also used camo duct tape)

THANKX!

I use 3M 5200 Marine adhesive for most geocaches that need glue. But when gluing a magnet to a small container like a bison, I also wrap it in duct tape.

+ 1 on JB weld....a very old product that works very well. I've attached dozens of magnets with JB after sanding and cleaning the surfaces.
