Most of us just went out and tried it, failed a few times, then succeeded and have been hooked since. I am not near you but if you ask specific questions someone will be able to answer them on the forums. You could look up caches near you and see who created them and email them from their profiles which are accessible from the cache page. I tried a few times and ended up emailing a guy who had found the one I was trying to find at the time. He emailed me back with another cache which I would be able to find easily. I did not meet any other cachers until I had done quite a few. I am over a 100 finds now and have only met cachers at three caches. Most of us do it alone most of the time. Good luck.
