Travel bug "flea"?

I recently picked up a travel bug and it has a "flea" on it. There's a little plastic tag zip tied to the bug with "CacherName's Travel Bug Flea" written on it.

I've never seen this before. Has anyone heard of it? Do I just send the travel bug on with its "flea"?

I suppose you can do whatever you want with it. It's not a recognized part of the game. (And imagine "fleas" or "hitchhikers" galore on every TB, if it were!)

If I were in a really mean mood, I'd post something about giving the TB a flea treatment before sending it on its way.

I'm still waiting to see a flea on a hitchhiker on a TB.

One of my TBs is a "Parasite"...meant to travel along with a "host" TB. Difference is - I guess - that mine is an actual Travel Bug tag with its own GC tracking number.

Of course, as with most TBs, it's not getting logged and I'm beginning to suspect it was stolen or grabbed by someone who doesn't know how to log TBs.

Oh boy. I know the owners of <removed by moderator> personally (well, I mean through the internet, although I did talk to the one guy on the phone once). I have interviewed them for a Geocaching blog, I have bought some, and I have given some away as a prize on that blog. The currently blogfaded Its Not About The Numbers Geocaching blog has done the same.

I was always worried they might take some flack for people attaching tags to other people's travel bugs. Personally, I ask permission to attach them, although I think I've only used 3 of the 10 I bought.

Sorry, I thought you were speaking of items that somehow get attached along the way like charms and such.

Didn't realize you were speaking of a game piece created to make a buck off of another.

Well, you notice the only cache site listed as a "friend" isn't this one...

Personally, I think it's rude to attach to another's trackable.

Sorta like putting another game's qr stickers on someone else's cache.

I'm sure Groundspeak's thrilled with the idea....

Eh, Groundspeak might not be that concerned about it. But I am quite sure they were never approached with the idea. Like I say, I knew there would be people out there who think it's rude. You know why? You're close enough that I'm sure you've seen these. There's a guy from Michigan who is a travel bug fanatic, and he attaches large tags to Travel Bugs saying he's taken them on "escorted tours". I won't name names right now, but I have seen 2 or 3 threads right here in this very travel bug forum over the years complaining of this practice.
