I'm very new to caching, and already I can tell I"m going to be a lifetime geonerd. But I would love to meet up with some fellow nerds. Does anyone know of any gatherings around this area????

Do a search for "event" cache near your area, use the advanced search on Geocaching.com

You're in a very good area with regard to some quality caches and people but not sure how many events go on in the area. Eye of the Pirate and Team Itchy and Scratchy are two teams that have hidden some quality caches. I've got some CC Land Pirates caches bookmarked for a run to the area as well. I've got my notifications set up to 100 miles out and I don't recall there being a lot of events, but one or two pop up every month or two. OKIC (Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana Cachers) page on FB has cachers that post when they're going on runs and Richmond is/was a frequent stop for many. Most people in the area frequent FB more than these forums. If you're interested, there's also a group in Indy on FB - Indy Area Geocachers - that has members from farther away (Ft. Wayne, Louisville, Richmond, Bloomington, Shelbville, Columbus)

besides OKIC, there is also the Miami Valley Geocachers (also with a FB page)...both groups are very active
