Combining Waymarks with Geocaching?

I was thinking, would there be any way/interest in combining Waymarks with geocaching? Or even just Waymark finds? It would be nice to be able to Drop/Dip TB's and have the finds count on geocaching.com. Virtual caches are fun, but since they are long gone, it might be fun to have something to take its place. What does everyone think?

Well...seeing as how Waymarking is what happened when Virtuals were retired, it's not likely they'll ever bring 'em into the fold.

Yes, you're probably right. :( Just an Idea though!

Waymarking...

When you Google it, it says:

"Waymarking - A scavenger hunt for unique and interesting locations"

Covered Bridges - Interesting!

Survey Control Marks - Interesting!

Old Train stations - Interesting!

Old Cemeteries - Intereting!

Starbucks - Not interesting

McDonalds - Not interesting

TGI Fridays - Not interesting

At least Groundspeak keeps this crap OUT of the game by not allowing any hint of business names or any sort of advertising. Get rid of the businesses from Waymarking....and it'll be worth doing.

They used to be Virtuals and when Virtuals were eliminated way marking was created. Combining them would be a step backwards. Caching (with the exception of Earthcaches) are about finding a container and signing the log.

Certainly if you always felt that a geocache need a container and log and that virtual caches were never really geocaches to begin with, then moving these to another site and keeping them completely separate makes sense.

However, given that existing virtual caches remain grandfathered on Geocaching.com, given that EarthCaches remain on Geocaching.com, and given that many individuals would still like to have a containerless cache alternative on Geocaching.com, better integration of at least some part of Waymarking with Geocaching.com seem like a reasonable way to go. Not all Waymarks need to be made accessible from Geocaching.com, just select a few categories that would have a broad appeal to geocachers.

This still might be nice if even just the finds would count, and the ability to "dip" TB's.

For instance, of you were at an airport in an other state, and wanted that souvenir, there would be no way to grab a cache unless you left security. With a Waymark there you could take a picture of yourself anywhere in the airport and log your find and count that state.

Maybe the Websites could stay separate, but the finds/stats be combined.

If I am not mistaking, don't we use the same username/password for logging into Waymarking.com? And yes a Waymarking app would be great.
