+PuzzleEMT
I have the opportunity to buy either a Garmin ETrex 20 or an Vista HCX. Which is better? I am new to geocaching, but am also kinda nerdy and want to be fully equipped with the best equipment I can afford before heading out. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Quote Link to comment
+Gitchee-Gummee
Hands down, the eTrex 20. The Vista, though not bad, is a discontinued model. I believe that your caching experiences will be much more gratifying with the '20... especially once you upgrade to Premium Membership. That is when the '20 will really shine! Quote Link to comment
+BlueDeuce
A lot of good memories using the Vista. Mainly finding caches. Quote Link to comment
+ADKer
20, end of story. The 20 is basically the succesor to the vista. The main difference is paperless geocaching, which makes it worth it, hands down. I own the 20 and LOVE it. Quote Link to comment
+BlueDeuce
So why didn't they call it the Vista 20? Quote Link to comment
+PuzzleEMT
Well, it looks like the 20. All I had to hear was "Vista discontinued". Ha ha! Thank you for all the feedback. Happy caching!! Quote Link to comment
+PuzzleEMT
Someone sold me their Garmin Legend for 20$ and it works fine, but they didn't have a cable. If anyone can point me in the direction where I can get a serial to usb cable, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. Quote Link to comment

Be advised that some Garmin software, noteably BaseCamp, does not work with legacy (serial) devices. Quote Link to comment
