+IntotheWoods Posted November 2, 2002 Posted November 2, 2002 The description of geocache locations listed on the FAQ page states that geocaches may be found inside buildings. I have yet to see one! If anyone knows of any, I'd love to hear about them and where they are. (How do you find them with no signal? What kinds of buildings would actually be acceptable for cache hiding?) Quote
+worldtraveler Posted November 2, 2002 Posted November 2, 2002 It's a multi-cache, and the final coords put you at a small pub. Inside is a locked treasure chest (the cache). You don't actually use your GPSr inside any building on this hunt, though. Here's the link: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=11345 Worldtraveler Quote

+bvgps Posted November 2, 2002 Posted November 2, 2002 Sorry -- don't know how to edit forum replies.) The url turned out funny in my previous reply. The cache is called Nephews' Cache and the url for the cache page is: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=17985 bvgps Quote
Xcacher Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 Here's a good one in TX: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=9372 You don't actually know it's in a building until you get there. I figured it out right away, but some people are really stumped by it. Quote

Besides having to deal with unfamiliar cache territory, I found that the tall buildings make satellite reception iffy outside. Trying to do it without the hints is a real challenge. Quote
+Mr. 0 Posted November 4, 2002 Posted November 4, 2002 Here's an interesting one in Columbus OH. Based On A True Story As for finding it w/o a signal. In this cache the coordinates lead to the parking lot, from there one must use the hints to locate it. Quote
+McIrish Posted November 4, 2002 Posted November 4, 2002 Here is one we did that ended us up indoors. This was a very very clever cache. The GPS got us to and open area, and then you had to solve the riddle to figure out where to go. Once inside....more riddles. This was an ingenious cache. I loved it. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=12953 "Happiness is not a destination. It is a method of life." Quote
mortonfox Posted November 4, 2002 Posted November 4, 2002 Here's one in Newark, NJ. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=31088 I knew what it was about before going but it should be pretty obvious when you get there. Quote
+bigeddy Posted November 5, 2002 Posted November 5, 2002 quote:Originally posted by IntotheWoods:What kinds of buildings would actually be acceptable for cache hiding? Libraries seem to be the most popular location, as they are public and have many potential hiding places. Other public buildings such as City Hall might work if you are clever and get permission. There is one I know of with the final stage at a Forest Service office. And then there is a multi-stage cache that starts in an outhouse! I thought of putting one in a stack of ammo cans at the local army surplus shop but was afraid the prevailing attitude against so-called commercial caches would shoot that down. The ones mentioned above are all physical caches. There are many opportunities for virtual caches within buildings. Some I've seen include a medical building, a car repair shop, a parking garage, and the Sears Tower. Quote
+beatnik Posted November 5, 2002 Posted November 5, 2002 This is a physical cache that is indeed located in a library. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=33728 It is a pretty tough find. The staff will give help when needed. The library is very small compared to most libraries so it's not impossible to find. It has a very unique container that works quite nicely. beatnik Quote
