+Scott 45N
Can anyone recommend online maps that show or easily give latitude and longitude? Preferably in DD MM.MMM format, as most caches use. In google maps under Maps Labs, you can set a Lat/Long tooltip that shows DD.DDDDD format. That's the best I've found to date, but DD MM.MMM format is really needed for many geocaching uses. Google earth sort of does this, but it's so poorly implemented that it's almost useless. Labels/grids are badly displayed; increments are weird; resolution cuts off too soon. Anyone know anything better? Thanks. Quote Link to comment
+MartyBartfast
Not sure if this will fulfill your needs but it does what you mention and I use it all the time. If you install the Geocaching Map Enhancements script from http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/109145 (it's available for Firefox, Chrome, and IE). Then use the Geocaching maps link on a cache page, then click the "i" button on the map page, every time you click on the map it brings up an info box which includes, among other things, the co-ords in dd mm.mmm format. This script allows you to also select many different underlying maps, including Google, BING, OpenStreetmap, and others. Quote Link to comment
+DonB
I don't know of an easy way with maps but the easiest way for me is I just multiply the .dddddddd times 60. Or you could use FizzyCalc which will convert the coordinates to three different formats at once. Quote Link to comment
GrandPotentate
I use the Google Maps Labs as well and you are able to use that format of coordinates when placing a cache, you can also change the format style when updating coordinates on an existing page. If you really want DD MM.MMM, I use http://boulter.com/gps/ to do the conversions, you are able to copy and paste directly from the Google Map. Quote Link to comment
+Cache O'Plenty
Google Earth has a pretty accurate reading of the current pointer position on the map. It appears in the lower right corner of the map, just below the Google Earth logo. I think you have to turn it on (default is off) In the View, check the status bar. Then in Tools/Options you can select the format you desire. You don't get gridlines but you can get the coordinates. When I say accurate, it varies depending on where in the world you are. Depends on how accurately they overlaid the coordinate grid. In my area, it seems even more accurate than my GPS. Quote Link to comment

+Harry Dolphin
I like Acme Mapper. Especially good for searching for benchmarks. Quote Link to comment
+ipodguy
When I'm in a pinch and I need coords quick, mapper.acme.com is where I go. Quote Link to comment
+egroeg
EarthExplorer The coords of the cursor read out on the screen and you can add a grid. You can do satellite view, map view, or topo. However, the formats are either DD.DDDD or DD MM SS. As mentioned previously the conversion is simple. Quote Link to comment
ZeekLTK
I've been using this: http://itouchmap.com/latlong.html But you do have to convert to either DD.DDDD or DD MM SS Edited August 22, 2013 by ZeekLTK Quote Link to comment
+Team Periwinkle
another one that displays cursor coordinates in DD.DDDDD is my favorite: http://www.mappingsu...com/p/gmap4.php Nice thing is the two menus in the upper right allow you to pull down lots of different overlays and customize the view. It also supports KMZ overlays...for example, see this overlay that I created: http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.php?q=https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/78581604/maps/dover-westwood.kml I'm going to write a note to the author of that site and see if he can make the position format customizable (i.e. DD MM.MMM instead of DD.DDDDD) Dave Edited August 22, 2013 by Team Periwinkle Quote Link to comment
+Markwell
Google Maps has the ability in the "Google Labs" to have a Lat/Lon drop pin. Quote Link to comment

If you open either of the links Dave posted and rightclick on the map then you see a popup that shows the coordinates in various formats, including DD MM.MMMMMM, for the spot you clicked. I made a note of Dave's suggestion that I provide a way that users could choose to have coords displayed as DD MM.MMMMMM in the lower right corner of the screen. That is a reasonable request and I will implement it but no idea when that will happen. Joseph, the Gmap4 guy Quote Link to comment
