Free Geocoin resurrection...just helping out

Aloha,

 

I have really gotten into releasing trackables (travel bugs and geocoins) and have come across the ever dreaded disappointment of having the item stolen, missing or disappeared, especially right after it gets released into a cache. i also tend to be a bit of a stickler when it comes to caches showing that a trackable is listed but when you get there its not in the cache. I have come to "deal" with these things, but as such I personally wanted to make sure that my trackables travel and created a fun an unique way of re-releasing my trackables by using a bottle cap type tag and placing the trackable number in it and attaching it to a color photo copy of the trackable (either a picture of the original travel bug item or the front and back sides of a geocoin).

 

While some people frown on this practice (i.e. sending out proxies), it is up to the individual person as to if they want to release a proxy and/or if they will move a proxy. I will not get into that debate as I clearly have fun releasing even my proxy coins and tags and watching them travel.

 

What I am writing is to offer my services of creating proxies to resurrect a lost, stolen, missing, disappearing trackable at no charge, but simply to see them back in action again. I am posting a few examples so you can see what would be created and you can decide for yourself if you want to contact me or not.

 

Here are a few things regarding this free service:

 

1) The proxy will be released in Hawaii, I will not spend money to send it anywhere. If you would like me to send it somewhere, the cost to package and ship would be on you. On some occasions I can release them when I travel, but I would ask you if you would prefer it prior to releasing.

2) I will ONLY release proxies where the owner of the trackable to be released is the same person to contact me. I will not make proxies that are requested by someone other than the owner.

3) I will not make proxies for any trackables that are in a race. Since I will be releasing them in Hawaii, they will gain miles on them from their last logged site to Hawaii and this is an unfair advantage to others in the race.

4) I am not the person making the decision that your trackable has gone missing. If you think two weeks is enough and want a new one released, I have no problems in doing such at your request. I will not get into a debate as to how long an item goes without being logged to consider it missing. You decide if it is missing. not me.

5) I am open to your requests of colors, other items to be attached, adding a laminated info card that has the trackable name and goal on it and even printing it in other languages, but there is only so much I can do, so please make the requests reasonable.

Very Cool! I like it! I have no problems with Proxies! You will still achieve the cool Icon if you Discover or move it! So it's all good!

I know a lot of people have problems with proxies, but I certainly don't! I, too, have had too many coins go missing and eventually, they all go missing. When I first started Geocaching, I had no idea that people would steal anything in a cache; how naive of me. I have certainly learned over the course of years that isn't true. In fact, because so many of my coins/TBs went missing, I decided not to put anything out to travel. Instead, I trade or just leave coins and pathtags in a cache as gifts; it's a lot less angst that way. I have had people pick up one of my personal coins and said they traded for a pencil. Really? Like they would think a beautiful coin cost the same amount as a pencil? Even things like that creates angst on my behalf. I think it is wonderful of you to offer this service-and all for free-how generous of you. I do have one special coin that I would like a proxy made, if I can find its code. I will contact you if/when I find it. And thanks for offering your services to make these proxies. I also wanted to add that your proxies look amazing and I wish I were in Hawaii!

Sounds like a neat idea. Looks like a good, unique proxy. Seems like a lot of work for you. I wonder how often TBs make it off the island.

I would think TBs move off of Hawaii rather quickly.

It depends on where you put them. I know of three TB hotels that get action from all over the world plus a few of my own caches that see a lot of activity near the ports where the cruise ships come in, so they do get moved.

If you have activated any tb or proxy and its under your name you can find your code on the TB page one the right side. It will only show on the page if you are the owner and you are logged in.

It is one of the saddest cases. Out of over 100 coins set free to travel, I doubt if 30 are still alive. That particular Kansas Sunflower was placed in one of my cache hides and never made it to another cache. After a month I decided to go get it and place it in a TB Hotel. It was already gone! (that was 2008) Micros are really har to keep moving as they are easier to lose or drop I think. So with tht new coin not having one lousy mile on it, feel free to revive it and start it in Hawaii! Thanks for doing this!

I've just started with geocaching and released my first two travelbugs, hopefully the will meet in Hawaii as their missions is travel East and travel west

 

I've just discovered some caches with "should-be" Coins in it and how sad ... nothing in it, stolen or at least missing

Ok this may be a highly repetitious question, but how can you remove a trackable from a cache when it is not really there. On the proxy, I suppose I'm ok with it but I do understand the loss of geocoins. This seems like a much better idea than photo copying coins.

This is a very nice offer! I just had a very good time going through my long missing geocoins and looking at their goals and stories. I picked out the three most interesting ones (and most definitely missing ones), hoping for some help getting them resurrected. Thank you, 4B Ohana!
