+Pharisee Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Another of my caches has been vandalised and the small ammo can that was the cache container has been stolen. The contents were just dumped on the ground at the cache location. For the time being I've replaced it with a plastic box but having had three ammo cans stolen, that's the last time I'll replace any more of my caches. I had plans for a couple of new trickier ones but they will not get placed now and as any of my current caches need maintenance, I'll just archive them. All my caches have been made Premium Member Only caches and will remain so but 'stable door' and 'horse' come to mind. If the cretin responsible can read.... +abiherts Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Both mine and my husband's caches have been "muggled". Both of these were ammo cans and other ammo cans have gone missing in the Ware area. As we're not too far from you I wonder if there may be a connection? Quote
+GAZ Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 (edited) Pharisee, have you made them all PM since that cache was muggled, or were they all PM before? Edited August 13, 2013 by GAZ Quote
+The Blorenges Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Similarly, our only two ammo can caches have been taken recently from here in SE Wales. We won't be putting out any more ammo cans now. It's sad. MrsB Quote
+Pharisee Posted August 13, 2013 Author Posted August 13, 2013 Pharisee, have you made them all PM since that cache was muggled, or were they all PM before? Whenever I've put out new caches, they've always been 'Members Only' for the first few weeks, then I open them up to everybody. Today I put them ALL back to Members Only. Quote
+Jacaru & Wemnog Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 They disappear often here in Nottingham(shire) I rarely put them out now, but if I do I mark them in such a way that only I can tell. If I find a newish cache that is an ammo can I check it out (just in case. So far none have been mine. My caches are always PM only but it doesn't seem to make much difference. Quote
BOBBLES WORLD TOUR Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Bad Luck Old Chap! I've found 4 such containers. 3 quite rusty, 2 with lids unattached and 1 took me 5 minutes to prise open. Blood drawn! Plastic L and L's seems to be my preferred find of ease. Let them steal them. They are not as perfect as these pages allude to. They were "THE" container 10 years previous, but a lot can happen in those years. Quote
+Pieman Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 (edited) I have been lucky because in 9 years of placing ammo box caches only one has ever gone missing- lots of tupperware has disappeared in that period. Actually, I suspect that why for most hiders ammo boxes go missing more than other containers is that they are both bigger (on average) and more attractive to non-cachers who stumble upon them. +qrang Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I had plans for a couple of new trickier ones but they will not get placed now and as any of my current caches need maintenance, I'll just archive them. That will be a shame. Having done 'Your Mission....' a few years ago we have just got back to doing some Pharisee caches and appreciating the quality and effort that goes into them. As we live in Hampshire, we only get to do a stage every few months when we get over to the area. Quote
+ivanidea Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Having just had some metal item removed from my garden, I'm sure the ammo boxes are only being taken for their scrap value, albeit not worth much at the moment, but it all adds up. Quote

BOBBLES WORLD TOUR Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 "Let them steal them" So you think its totally acceptable to encourage people to steal others property??? I'm not bothered either way. But I doubt my sentence will entice someone to actually steal them. Do you??? Quote
