Area 51 entrance?

Driving back from Reno to Phoenix, I stopped and took a picture of this at:

N 36 48.734

W 116 43.768

It appears to be a road leading into the Nellis Air Force Base? There is a guard shack just sitting out there. Is this the back entrance to Area 51?

Well, if you were facing NE, then you were looking in the direction of Groom Lake (Area 51, Dreamland etc), but it is over 50 air miles from your location. The road you are looking at ends in those mountains ahead. If you were looking to the SW, then no, Area 51 would be behind you.

That pic was taken facing NE, towards Groom Lake. Looking at a map it appears the boundary line for Nellis is alot closer than 50 miles off the highway, but I could be wrong. And why the guard shack? Hmmmmm..... Well, if nothing else, it's a cool pic of the mountains....

The joke is on YOU 360! That is NOT the entrance to Area 51. It is a pretty cool cache location. There is another cache less than 200 yards from where you took that pic too.

I was there not too long ago. That's not a guard house. I wish I knew what it used to be. Verrrry interesting spot. I flipped when I noticed a cache had been placed there.

OK, I just checked. The other cache must have been archived. I went past it thinking I could get it on the way back and ended up not taking that rout the other way. Can't remember the name.

Sorry 360! I just couldn't help myself on that one. I did a double take and then just started cracking up. If you read my log. I think the primary use of that spot is paintball.

Those mountains are pretty distinctive. (I can ID mountains the way some people can ID aircraft. I'm NTS with aircraft as well.) I wish I was able to load my pics. (computer problems) I took some nice ones.

Hey 360,

Ever heard of The Schwa?

We've ummmm, THEY have been running the world for over 40 years now.

Where the heck do you think nanotechnology came from anyway?

The nanites that you have injested from commercial food products are just waiting for a signal, from the Mothership, to reorganize your DNA into alien form. You won't resist colonization by YOUR OWN KIND.

[bTW I'm currently writing a novel and a screenplay based on the concept of that last paragraph. The idea has been registered with the Writers Guild.]

Man, good thing you already registered that idea...I am sure you are aware of how important it is to protect your intellectual properties on this website...

Neat concept for a novel, one I haven't heard of until now.

Well, If you look at the map on the cache link that I provided, the other side of that narrow mountain range is the old nuclear test range. A radioactive wasteland. icon_eek.gif

BTW- I saw THE Cooooolest mock dogfight between F14's and F18's two years ago. I was not more than 1/4 of a mile from where that picture was taken. I've seen other manuvers in that area, but that dogfight was epic in proportion. No less than a dozen planes! Contrails everywhere! When they moved outta sight over the test range several faint sonic booms could be heard. Exciting to say the least. Cars were parked all along 95 to watch the show.

I did some training down the road from there at Indian Springs. Got to play all over the hills and waddis. It wasn't so much fun in July but it sure was pretty country. The view made the time go fast.

That is absolutly untrue!

Nellis AFB is a gigantic area divided into plots of land randomly named by numeric code. Area 51 houses assembly hangars from the cold war. Such notable spyplanes ruch as the U-2 and Sr-71 were assembled and tested here. It is no UFO site but it does exist.

I flew Starlifters in the Air Force and got to see XXXXX and XXXXX. Once, we carried some XXXXX to the XXXXXX and one of them suddenly XXXXX, knocking the pilot from his chair. We had to shoot the XXXXX in its XXXXXX with a special XXXXX. After we landed in XXXXX, two agents for the XXXXX made us sign a XXXXXX promising never to talk about XXXXX. But they didn't say I couldn't write in the geocaching forums about it!

Yup, I know exactly what you mean.... ain't it a kick to get to see and do stuff others can only speculate about? Hehehehehehe.

Of course, the bad part is if you slip up and say something you shouldn't have, then those guys from XXXXXXXXXXX come to see you, and it's just such a hassle.....

I lived in Lincoln County, Nevada for several years and I've been up to the hills outside of Area 51, before it was annexed by the government a few years back to keep people from looking in on Groom Lake. A local expert on Area 51 (he really is an expert on it, took me a buddy and severl Lincoln county Commissioners and a state senator up there on a tour. One of the guys I was with had a radio tracker and "found" two metal detector units next to the road as we drove in to look down on the site. Within 5 minutes of him disabling the first of the two devices (they were left out on public property), we had two Wackenhut security vehicles following us. Fun stuff. As we sat and looked down on Groom Lake, they sat on a hill near us with the biggest frickin pair of mounted binoculars I have ever seen and sat and watched us the whole time, and they were all carrying pistols and it looked like sniper rifles (they watched us through their scopes too!). I was warned several times by the guy giving the "tour" not to point anything resembling a camera towards Area 51 while I was there or possibly be shot at. That's the only place I have ever been where the security guys actually looked more prepared to shoot someone then the military, and I was in the Army! Now the nearest peak you can see into Groom Lake is about 10 miles away and you really can't see anything. Good luck sneaking in too - the Lincoln County Sheriff's office gets about five prisoners delivered to them a year by Wackenhut - supposedly no one - not even a geocacher, has ever made it in and back out, without being caught. Did I mention the camera fence with the Infrared/motion sensors? Yeah, I'm not kidding.

If you can't find it, you ain't looking hard enough!

I can't wait for someone to put a cache behind area 51 boundary lines. It could be the ultimate 5-star difficulty cache! icon_biggrin.gif

-----------------------------------------------------------
Garmin V
Using Opera 7.1
I once made a virtual with the coordinates of the ATC Tower in Area 51 as a waypoint. (people who could make a picture of the waypoint would get extra credit hehe)

It was denied by an approver because you can't use 'a tower' as a waypoint..

Hey, Snoogans, I wonder if that could have been the Red Flag exercises you were seeing out there... :anibad: Edited by Full House 5

Actually those mountains are an illusion put there to hide their secret nefarious gather site, in kahootz with the military and the government. Jeez...Don't you people know anything?

After all, it WAS moved to 2 different locations, one of them being so deep in the Colorado mountains that it would be several days hike just to get to it, because no vehicles could get through.

icon_rolleyes.gif

Brian
Team A.I.

I hate to tell you this but area 51 is in Nevada.
