Street Maps Needed

I just got my new eTrex 20 and love it. I downloaded some TOPO maps for the treks into the woods but I'd like something with streets to use for my urban cache and dash runs. Any suggestions? Free would be great.

http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ and http://www.osmmaps.com will get you free routeable maps for you state(s) you want, or the whole country if you prefer.

 

I have the map of Canada on a microSD in my eTrex 20.

Blackrose I need some help please. I downloaded a map from garmin.osm....... and then loaded it onto the microSD card in my garmin 450T. The GPS does not see any maps on the card. Any suggestions. Anyone?? I extracted the map right from the garmin.osm site to the microsd card, and it cannot see the map. I'm going from memory but I think it downloaded the map as a gpsmapsupp or something like that.

You need to create a Garmin folder on the microSD card, and then place the map file(s) in that root of that directory.

 

For example, my map of Canada is in L:\Garmin\canada.img

Topo maps generally have streets on them. Are you looking for routable street maps to get driving directions?
