PN-60 downloading caches

Has anyone else started experiencing problems downloading caches to their PN60?

This just started last Friday for me. I'm getting "PLUG-IN Not found" error.

I've tried four different computers using Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers

and get the same error on all four. I even reset the gps to factory defaults

but still no luck.

I'm able to download my cache list from the GPS to GSAK, so communications is

working between the computer and the GPS.

Anybody got any ideas??

Thanks,

Peter

Are you speaking of Cache Register, Delorme's defunct loading program?

If so, that has not functioned for a while now. Delorme has stated that they have no intentions of repairing or replacing (?) it to comply with changes in geocaching.com.

It is unnecessary anyway, as is GSAK for loading caches to the unit.

1] Run and download PQ -- unzipped that file if still zipped;

2] Plug unit to computer and activate (wait for acknowledgement beep) -- select internal memory or SD card on the screen of the PN-60;

3] Locate removable storage unit via My Computer, be it internal memory or SD card;

4] Drag 'n Drop both of the unzipped files to that drive;

5] Turn off and eject unit, then unplug it from computer and go caching.

Neither Firefox or IE have anything to do with the process.

No, I'm not using the Delorme Cache Register. I'm going right from the page of the desired cache and

clicking on the SEND TO GPS button.

I don't have an SD card installed, just using the internal memory of the PN-60.

I only made reference to GSAK as a test to make sure I had communications between the PN-60 and the computer.

Up until Friday, I had been able to download caches to the PN-60.

Don't have any ideas. I just recently installed the single "Sent to GPS" add-on to FF. It didn't work. So I installed the IE version and it worked. Haven't tried it in Chrome. Those are the only browsers I use. Tried different things in FF, as that is the browser I use mostly. GC still says the add-on is not detected. It used to work some time back on another PC but that may have been an older version of FF.

This will probably get moved to the G and T forum.

Happy Caching.

I also have a PN60 Every so often this happens to me. The plug in is in your browser. Every so often the plugin needs to be updated.

Also some times it just goes buggy. Just download and install the pluggin again, the link should be on the send to box.

After that all should be ok again. A large note here though, some cache pages have screwy code and the send to function can wipe out most of your geocaches in the PN 60.

Later I can explain how to install a pocket query, pocket query eliminates the send to wipe out. Now I have to work.

Here is a bit more on the PN60. If you create more than one Geocache file this is when the loss of downloaded geocaches can dissapear.

Lets say you name a geocache file on the PN60 NEAR HOME and use the send to GPS function on the cache page.

You load up 200 geocaches in this folder. Then you create another Geocache folder VACATION and load up 300 using the send to GPS function.

When you switch from one to the other at this time you might loose a whole lot. If a Geocache is named Come and get it, and that file

has a hexadecimal code in it (you won't know it till it is ,too late) then when you switch to the other Geocache folder.

Every Geocache below that one will be wiped out. But if you create a pocket query using the Geocaching web site and give it a name.

Then send it to your email, you can open that attachment and drag it into the waypoints folder of the PN60.

Now if a Geocache there did have that Hex issue it would be fixed and not loose any thing.

To move it over you connect the PN60 to the computer. Next take the PN60 in hand, on the main page select settings.

Then scroll down to connect to computer. Press enter, a green bar will be on Use GPS. Press enter, Use GPS, open SD Card, and Open internal drive will be there.

Since you do not have an SD card installed, scroll down to Open internal drive. You now have it set up just like a USB stick.

Put the PN60 down. The usual stuff will pop up on your computer about how do you want to do this. Choose open files foldes.

One folder that you will see is Waypoints. Open this, now find that attachment in your email and open it. You will see two files one is the Geocaches.

Click on it and drag it to the way points folder of the PN60. The othe file from the attacment is extra waypoints such as parking.

I don't use it because you will not be able to see it at the same time as the Geocache folder. When done pick up the PN60 and select use as GPS and press enter.

The drive is now dissconnected and the computer sees it as a GPS now. I learned the hard way noew I have one file for send to and other files from pocket query.

PS the pocket query function in TOPO software that came with PN60 no longer functions. Ground speak and TOPO no longer play nice together.

Good luck and have fun.

I do recomend that you put an SD card in. You will be able to load up lots of maps. I have 16 gig and have all features and roads for three states

loaded in mine and still have lots of room. I also have about 9 pocket queries on that card as well as color arial photo overlay.

I may be wrong but I thought the OP was doing something like myself. My PQs typically don't include multis or unknowns. The other day I thought I might want to have at least one of each in my found list. So instead of changing my PQ or doing a new one, I just found a couple of caches nearby that seemed easy enough and used the single cache - send to gps. That is where I had trouble using FF but IE worked.

I might see if Chrome will work for both DeLorme and Garmin. That would be convenient should I desire to do single cache downloads.

After installing Internet Explorer 11, I am having problems with the DeLorme plug-in. A quick work-around is to select "Tools" on the browser and then select "Compatibility Settings". Once I add geocaching.com to the compatibility list, the DeLorme plug-in loads and sends the cache to the PN-60. Hopefully, DeLorme will have an update soon that works with IE 11.
