+Suffolk Dumplings
We're more traditional cachers; we love finding a box and having a good rummage around inside and always carry a bag of 'swaps' for such an occasion. We like to ramble across fields for miles with our dogs but just lately there's a preponderance of nanos around the town that cause havoc with our searching. Now, each to their own and some must love these incy wincy tiny containers but they just aren't for us. How do I search for caches nearest to home and exclude all those nanos which we either don't want to look for or have looked for and haven't found? I'm sure there's a way but I just cannot find it. Any help would be very welcome. Thank you. Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
You can't specifically remove nanos because nano is not a size, it is simply a micro. Unfortunately too many people don't realize this and complicate things by improperly listing them as "other" or "not chosen". So the only way to eliminate nanos from your pocket query would be to eliminate any cache listed as a micro, other or not chosen. Unfortunately that will also eliminate a lot of caches that aren't nanos too. Quote Link to comment
+Bear and Ragged
Use Pocket Queries? Select sizes Large, Regular and Small. Don't select Micro sized caches. You may also need to unselect size unknown/not listed as a lot of cachers try to hide the fact it's a nano by selecting those size options. A nano is a micro = Micro anything film tub size and smaller. Quote Link to comment
+Isonzo Karst
Another "use pocket queries" response. Ask for caches from home (or use a some GC Code nearby often works better) that: you haven't found, size small, regular, large, terrain equal to or greater than 2 you may want to eliminate puzzles, or Wherigo - or not. Those caches are apt to be enjoyable to you. You'll likely miss some that you'd enjoy as well, so occasionally, go to Hide and Seek a cache, http://www.geocaching.com/seek/ put in a center point near home coords, indicate a limiting distance, whatever is comfortable travel for you. The list that this generates can now be sorted on Favorite points. If you notice some micro/other with points, perhaps it would be worth trying. link below for caches within 20 miles of one of your owned caches, sorted on Favorite points http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?t=m&lat_ns=1&lat_h=52&lat_mmss=28.554&long_ew=1&long_h=001&long_mmss=40.256&dist=20&submit8=Search&sortdir=desc&sort=fav Quote Link to comment
AZcachemeister
As already mentioned, there is not yet any 'clean' way to filter them out. If you use GSAK, you might also try creating a filter by keyword in the description (Full text search), and search for 'nano' in the descriptions. Sometimes a courteous CO will actually say the container is a nano. Of course, sometimes the CO will declare they would never hide a nano, so these caches will show up in the search too. You have to read the descriptions to be sure, but GSAK will have highlighted your search word to make it easier to find. Then you can put the nasty little buggers on your ignore list! It gets tiring repeatedly posting about all the things that they said were coming, and now one, two, three, even four years later, nothing. After a point, it's obvious that no one important enough is paying attention. In the last four years the number of players and the number of caches has exploded. The simple fact is that there are many different styles and locations for caching and not everyone wants to find every single type of cache. In the past it was not really that big of a problem to filter out a few caches that you didn't like, but because of the numbers now involved, it becomes very difficult. Groundspeak simply has not kept up and given us the tools that we need to filter out what doesn't interest us. Quote Link to comment
+SSO JOAT
And then there's that "stick in the eye" when OC did it first by adding nano as an official size (amongst many other features that people wanted which were going no where with GS). You'd think the competition would be incentive to churn out expanded features. Just sayin' Quote Link to comment
