CachingGrandpa
Hi, I have always been able to download caches to my GPS and then go on the Gps and find them there. Now although I see the .GPX file with the GC code it does not show up when I click on find a geocache or when I enter the name to search for it. I talked to Garmin support and they suggested that I delete some of the caches on my GPS. So I deleted the oldest 45 caches then downloaded a new cache to it. It said the file was already there do I want to overwrite it and I said yes. Then I disconnected the GPS from the computer, turned it back on and still could not find the cache. Does anybody have any suggestions on what I should do so I can download more caches to my GPS? Quote Link to comment
The A-Team
How many GPX files do you see in there? The 450 is limited to a maximum of 200 GPX files. If you have more than that, it will probably just ignore some. Quote Link to comment
CachingGrandpa
I had about 190. deleted so I had only 120. Tried to download again and it still did not work. Quote Link to comment
cwgrizz
A couple of things. Are you loading them into an SD card or the main memory? I read somewhere that some had problems like you describe and their remedy was to load the GPX files onto the SD card. Then if it didn't show up in the field as you describe to turn off the unit. Remove the SD card. Turn the unit back on. Turn it off and reinsert the SD card. Turn the unit back on and it will search again (refresh) finding all the GPX files. Now having said all of this, I thankfully have not personally had the problem and hope I don't. This work-around seems like a big pain in the backside to me. Hope this helps. Quote Link to comment
The_Incredibles_
Have you tried pocket queries? They allow you to put a whole bunch of geocaches in 1 .gpx file. I would suggest deleting all .gpx files from your garmin directory and running pocket queries instead of putting them on individually. Quote Link to comment
CachingGrandpa
Thanks but I do not have an SD card installed. Now it seems to be a little random. Some caches I donwload I can find and some I can not. Quote Link to comment
CachingGrandpa
I guess I could try pocket queries for new areas that I am visiting but a lot of the individual caches are a result of newly posted caches that I watch for near my home. Quote Link to comment
Don_J
I don't have one of these but I have been paying attention to some of the problems that people have posted about them, and this one comes up often. Try plugging it into your computer and deleting some of the GPX files, then disconnect it and reboot the unit. Next turn it off and hook it back up to your computer, turn it on and load your new GPX files. Disconnect it and reboot again and it should refresh it's internal database. The key is that you have to reboot the unit between deleting and then adding new files. Edited June 2, 2013 by Don_J Quote Link to comment
