+DougK Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 A new series just started on the Travel Channel called Monumental Mysteries. In episode 3 (to be reshown Sunday morning 7AM) there's a story about the failure of a safety net used during construction of the Golden Gate Bridge to catch falling workers. Anyway, at about 0:38 minutes in, a bronze plaque is shown that was erected on the bridge to the workers who were killed during bridge construction. The interesting part is that the show creators discovered the plaque pictures from a waymark of mine: WMBC3T They contacted me to ask if they could get the use of the full resolution photos that I took. I had to sign some release documents for their protection. They did some Ken Burns effects on a couple of them near the end of the story. Quote
+Max and 99 Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 That is awesome! The Travel Channel contacted me about a year ago to ask if they could use some of my Waymarking photos they saw when doing a search. I don't have cable, so I haven't been able to watch for the program. Good job, Doug! Quote
+iconions Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Excellent Doug! That sure beats my story of the local radio station just taking one of my Municipal Flag pictures off the site without permission and getting mad when I called them on it! Dern, this makes you like famous! We'll hafta get your picture on the comic book shop wall - right next to Leonard's! Seriously, excellent news for you and for the hobby! Congratulations! Quote
+Metro2 Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Very cool Doug! I once had a publisher contact me to use my photo of Ketchupsaurus.... for a book about Heinz. They were supposed to send me a copy when it was completed. Still waiting. Quote
+DougK Posted May 27, 2013 Author Posted May 27, 2013 I found an online Travel Channel teaser for the Golden Gate Bridge story. The two photos from the waymark appear at 1:46 and 1:53. Quote
GT.US Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 I try to tell people the value of a waymark isn't the physical visit, but the virtual visit. This is a prime example of that. I'd trade 100, "I visited this" logs for one "The Travel Channel thought my waymark had value" Quote
