Permission from Gov't?

I was looking to hide my first cache. I have a good location picked out, but I found out the government owns the land (I'm in Canada here). Do I have to contact a government official to get permission or am I allowed to go ahead without?

Hi AutisticMajor,

I am not sure which government you are referring to, federal, provincial, county, or urban?

Have a look at the Canada forums - http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showforum=28 for some information on National Parks and links to local geocaching groups. Your local geocaching group will likely have more information on News Brunswick or contact a local cacher who has a number of hides or your local reviewer.

Hope this helps,

One of the things about dealing with Gov't properties, is that you must first determine which agency has stewardship.

There are many levels of government and many agencies within each level.

Simple "government" permission doesn't cut it.

Contacting a local geocaching group may well cut through much of the red tape.

You might try emailing the cache owner, as they have quite a few hides.

Also, your local parks department or simply knock on a door to ask one of the residents near the peninsula who owns the land.

To answer you question, yes, you are supposed to get permission for all hides.

Sometimes an area will have a geocaching policy in place which may allow people to place geocaches without getting permission for each one. Your reviewer will know if there is one for your area, so you can email them too.
