I' m going to Italy in a few weeks & would like to know if you can download caches from iPad/iPhone to Garmin Dakota 20, or do I need to take my laptop? Free wifi in hotel.

No, you need to physically plug your GPS into the laptop to download the caches.

iPhone = no; iPad -- I dunno about.

 

You really should have your laptop with you, to download.

No, you can't. Apple locks restricts the dock connector on their devices so it would not be possible to include this functionality in an app.

Thanks to all for the info, I didn't think you could, but wondered if anybody had found a way to do it. Was hoping not to have to take the laptop as well.

... without a USB port on the ipad/iphone and the appropriate firmware/software to transfer...it's not an easy process if it can be done. I've done brief research on this last year....and why I purchased a netbook instead of an ipad (or similar pad device).

NOPE! But you can use your iPad as a back-up. If you could drag & drop as from iMac to iPad it would be nice but have not figure out the code as yet.

 

I carry both just in that unique situation when you are in a place you were not thinking about Caching but the situation presented itself. There nothing wrong with Hand Loading the Coords.
