+greenmealie
Some great caches in the Umfurudzi / Hippo Pools area in Zimbabwe have been laid recently. Anyone out there who is keen on a few FTF's. The 4x4 Club has a trip planned on the 18th April 2013 and I suspect that the geocachers amongst them will be zeroed in on a few good finds! GC48ZBD and GC48Z6V Quote Link to comment
JohnX
I hear Hippos like carrots and will eat them out of your hand so make sure you bring some if you go. Quote Link to comment

+Andromeda321
Hippos are actually the animal that kills the most people in Africa each year- they do NOT like boats and will tip them and drown the occupants. That said, have fun! And feel free to log my Vic Falls earthcache if you head that way. Quote Link to comment

I spent 3 days canoeing down the Zambeze and was well warned to keep away from them. It would probably be safer just to bring peanuts for the elephants. Also, Victoria Falls are utterly impressive and not to be missed. If you can manage it, high tea at the Victoria Falls Hotel is well worth attending. Quote Link to comment

Here's a picture I took while on a dinner cruise boat on the Zambezi about a mile above the falls. That was before Andromeda321 created her earthcache there but I did find the traditional on the Zimbabwe side of Vic falls. I've also been to a hippo pool in Mikumi National park in Tanzania and found a cache near the entrance of the park. I'll be in Ethiopia in three weeks but will likely won't get a chance to see any interesting wildlife. Quote Link to comment
+greenmealie
If you want to encounter these magnificent animals put this cache on your bucket list. http://coord.info/GC35CAC The Zambezi River has an abundant population of Hippos. The earlier comment that they "hate boats and will tip them" is not something that they do if you take care, respect their territory and never get between the hippo and the deep water. Canoeing and boating on the Zambezi is common and respect for the hippo is always given. Quote Link to comment
