I recently logged my 700th cache, GC1FEC Flying Crown, it is the oldest active cache in Wichita KS, PLUS it has been in the same spot, same container since 25 September 2001. Barondriver the cache owner is a local legend around Wichita, with many older unique caches. Does anyone know of any other caches that have been in the same spot, same container over 10 years? Please post the GC code and any information you may have about the cache or your adventure when you found it, thank you.

I was excited to find GC1B80, Chateau Gibson a couple of weeks ago near Morgan City. Placed 9/6/2001, it's still in its original container with its original logbook. It's the oldest traditional I've found to date (among my finds only the Virtuals at Walt Disney World are older). Interestingly, its first find was on 9/11/01.

I adopted Frisbee Fun shortly after it was hidden back in July, 2002. Still in its original rubbermaid container, this is now the Pittsburgh area's oldest mystery/puzzle cache. (I own three of the four oldest "?" caches, and I don't even like mystery/puzzles as a rule!)

 

In two weeks, The Elves Launch a Rocket to the Moon will turn ten years old. It's still in the original hiding place and original container - a mortar tube. Hidden with the land manager's knowledge and fairly deep in the woods, there will be no bomb scare caused by this cache. I hid the cache while on the way back from a planning meeting with the land manager at a nearby state park, where I hosted the World's First CITO Event in April 2003.

How many do you want? :laughing:

I just did a quick filter in my GSAK database, and there are about 60 caches in my area that were placed before March 28, 2003. All but a handful of those still have the original log, in the original container, in the original spot. Half of them were placed by the legendary TEAM KFWB GPS, but they've since adopted all of them out to other cachers. I'm the proud owner of one such cache, and I adopted another one that was placed in September of 2003.

Cratercache (GC4B0) placed 04/03/01 is still in its original place with its original container and only has 15 found it logs!

The '04 & '05 hurricane years in Florida devastated a lot of old hides. There aren't many in original condition. There aren't a whole lot in any condition.

 

Da Dog Yaks, coming up on 12 years, survived the hurricane flooding, because the tree it was tucked up against fell on it. It's a good thing the Rogue23 was the first to hunt it again after the run was re-opened to paddlers - it was well buried under mud and the tree. If that had been Isonzo Karst, (we were a week or so later to hunt it) I fear it would have been a DNF, and the cache might have been on the way to being archived. Not in the original ammo can, once the can was exposed to air after 2 years of being submerged, it rusted out and was replaced. The original log is still in it. I don't really think there's much difference between one ammo can and another.

 

GC51A original location, and i think can, not sure about log.

 

GC4588 original ammo can and log in the original location ... just inches above the high water levels after the 05' hurricane hit parade.

 

GC79BC I believe this hide is all original as well.

 

My second hide GCFA73 is in the original can and spot. I have the original logbook, had to remove to it after some nitwit left bubble liquid in the can, which leaked as usual. Thanks for this thread, I should return that logbook to the can; it's always going to be molded, but it's dry now.

GC39 The Spot

 

Hidden by GPS Fool on 05/26/2000. Last time I checked it was still there in the same ammo can and containing the original log book.

 

I hate to correct my pal GOF, but after all, I am a self-proclaimed amateur Geocaching historian. :ph34r: Here's the log for The Spot being changed from a bucket to a .50 cal ammo box in 2002: GPS Fool Note EDIT: Duh, I guess that is still over 10 years old, isn't it?

Wow, you and I actually do have something in common. :lol: I have found that cache, and I'm sure it's the only one of yours that I have. I spent a night at the Air Reserve Station once, and that park was pretty close. I think I cleaned it out of it's whopping 3 or so caches. Yes, that Mortar Tube was awesome, congratulations.

 

I guess I only have 1 active cache that will turn 10 in 2013, but it is not the original container. I'll bet that is really kind of a rare feat. Unless your name is BrianSnat. :huh:

There are a lot more caches over 10 years old still active than I first realized. After reading the comments so far it is also amazing to see how many containers have had to be replaced, yet the original log books are still intact. It made me start thinking even more, that original caches were a lot bigger than they are now, and people used actual books for logs rather than a single sheet of paper. Thank you all for your posts and it was way cool that Mr. Yuck had actually found and logged the cache placed and mentioned in another post by The Leprechauns. Thank you.

So cool StarBrand, we are heading to Steamboat Lake in July for a Family reunion, and I see that Joshua's High Country Hide - GC820E, is up North of where we will be staying. We were planning on taking a trip up in Wyoming to grab some caches, so I believe this will be on our to do list,

Oldest cache logged by me (in Jan. 2010) is GC4984 from Feb. 2002.

The cache was in danger of being archived last spring because the original owner had stopped Geocaching a while ago and didn't react when it was reported that the original container was broken after 10 years. I contacted the owner that I was willing to adopt it and a about week later asked the reviewer who had disabled it not to archive it too quickly because I would love to adopt but the owner hadn't replied to my offer. Finally the owner wrote an answer and we could arrange the adoption. A new container was placed and now cachers can enjoy the walk in a wonderful surrounding again.

We have found a couple up in the woods in Idaho.

 

GC27 - Eggcellent has the same container and log since June, 2000

 

Moun10Bike would have to confirm, but we think GC25, Camel's Prairie is still the original container(s); an ammo can in bucket.

Oldest cache I've found: GCE4 Another Brick in the Wall, placed Dec-2000 in New Canaan, CT. I believe it's in its original container.

Also an oldie, having just had its 10th "birthday" and special in that it's a traveling cache: GCC8CB Town & Country. The mention is a little off-topic, since this one isn't in the same spot (by definition), and recently got a new container.

GC28 Beverly has been in place since May 2000. 900 logs! I found it last fall and seem to recall that the log had been replaced at some point.

 

Beverly has had multiple containers and logs over the years. Only the location remains (and memories) from the original.

Very cool, I was stationed at Travis AFB down the road in Fairfield and visited Sonoma several times in the 90's. Next time I visit friends in CA, I will have to find this one.

 

William and Kate's Cache has been in the same spot with the same container since 2/2/2002. The CO isn't active anymore but for this cache it doesn't seem to matter... nice big ammo can hidden in some redwoods, original logbook and all.

I found Beverly in Sept. '09 and it had recently been urinated in. :mad: So I hope it's been maintained since then.

Golden Arrow, Nevada's third oldest was the same kind of container as mentioned in the text, it may qualify for this thread.

XKD-380 is Nevada's oldest, and appears to be the original container and location from a scan of the gallery. It was only found a small handful of times during the first 8 years of its existence, and only once a year for the first three! It is in what used to be a very remote caching area before the ET Highway trail came through.

Now it gets found pretty often.

Boggy Creek Bonanza was our very first cache to place back in May of 2002. I did have to change the first stage up a bit but the final is the original container housing the original logbook hidden in it's original hiding place. Heck, it still has it's original corny final stage hint. :lol:

 

The container is one of those cheap plastic dollar store lemonade type pitchers with the lid spout built in. I didn't know how long it would hold up but i went ahead and epoxied it shut to keep out water. What's cool, and very surprising, is that it's still going strong and has never had any problems with moisture getting inside. B)

I have 2 caches that qualify in Scotland. GCDD6C is my first cache placed 2nd March 2003. It has its original plastic container, but now placed inside another one.

I also adopted GC2BD4 which was placed 9th December 2001, and which coincidentally was my first find! Another plastic one.

Beaver Springs in an ammo can for many years. GC7c Beaver Springs October 2000 the second oldest in the state. With not many visits for that many years. I think the same is for Pony Express cache GC80 , and the Little Creek Stash GC8A placed the same week.

I have one I placed on 4/28/2001, GC819 Feraligator. It is the same container, same location and has the original log book. When I first placed this cache I had a camera for the finders to take their picture. The pictures were developed and placed in the cache.
