Organic Architecture

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

today I thought about Rudolf Steiner. He was the founder of the Anthroposophy philosophy. He also founded the Waldorfschule/Waldorf education schools. The buildings look very nice/strange/special.

After a little research I came to the "Organic architecture" -> Breathtaking!

I would love to have a category for the "Organic architecture" and I know that it will be not simple to write a description for it.

What do you all think?

Thanks,

Interesting pictures, but really difficult to define. Even professionals seem to struggle a bit here.

Then, there is already a category for Frank Lloyd Wright Designed Buildings, and there is a huge overlap with the Odd-Shaped Buildings.

Rudolf Steiner may not be the best example, because he was not a professional architect and has only designed a small number of buildings himself; all of them except one ore two are less than five kilometers from my home, BTW. He has influenced a lot of other architects and artists, though.

Yes, very interesting, but I agree with fi67: Probably too difficult to define and there is an overlap with other categories, in which these buildings could be waymarked. Not sure we need an extra category for them.

But then: How about a category for Waldorf Schools? After reading your first sentence, I thought that was what you were after and was intrigued by the idea. They are interesting both for their philosophy and their architecture, and they're global. Plus they'd be fairly easy to define. I think they'd make a great category.

Active schools (K-12) are problematic. I have done many school waymarks in various categories (mostly in those listed on National Register of Historic Places) but in general I only do them on weekends or after hours. Being around schools taking photos during school hours only invites problems. Universities and colleges are not a problem because in general you are dealing with adults. Former schools and one room school houses (almost always are long closed) are not a problem as students are not present. I would not support a general school category due to these concerns and also in general they are not very interesting architecturally.

As far as Waldolf schools it is not the number that would be problem for me but rather they are schools for the young thus a problem posting.

There is a reason that geocaches are not in general allowed on school property in the US.

Waldolf is the reindeer brother with the very shiny butt. He couldn't pull santa's sleigh because he blinded everyone behind him. Tragic, really for a flying reindeer -- butt the wurst was yet to come: he was mistaken for a UFO by the US Air Force and . . . got blown up into salad-sized bits.

Ok, when the 9-year old thinks that's funny, you know it's gotta be really REALLY dumb -- ha ha ha!!
