Pathfinder33
I am wanting to start looking for the highest and lowest caches in each state by elevation. Is there a way to search for caches in each state based on elevation with Groundspeak? Summer is coming and I am wanting to plan some trips around some of these caches. +Bear and Ragged
Not on Groundspeak, unless the cache owner comments that the cache is Highest/Lowest... GSAK with a macro - elevation.gsk - will work out the elevations for caches (Not always 100% if the coords are a little off near to a cliff ) but may do what you are after, for caches in a database. +StarBrand
The website has no such features. Quote Link to comment
The A-Team
As you can't do this directly through the site, my suggestion would be to determine where those points are from other resources (I'm sure there are plenty of sites that list them), then use things like the coordinate search or map on this site to find caches near those spots. I bet most of the highest points have caches on or very close to them. Quote Link to comment
T.D.M.22
This may also be affected if the cache happens to be in a tunnel in a mountain. Quote Link to comment
cerberus1
The site here , will show you the highest peaks in each State. They go by decimal format, so you'll have to do the coordinate switch thing (always homework...), then search by nearest on this site. Edited March 26, 2013 by cerberus1 Quote Link to comment
The A-Team
They go by decimal format, so you'll have to do the coordinate switch thing... Do you mean convert it to degrees and decimal minutes? If you use the search box on the front page, it takes many different formats, including decimal degrees. No conversion required. Quote Link to comment
va griz
I've never thought about that aspect before. For what it's worth, at least in many coastal states such as mine (Virginia) there will be so many caches that are so close to zero feet in elevation that there would be no practical way to say which is the lowest. Some are underwater, so maybe that would simplify the quest. Quote Link to comment
