Search for a specific area

Hi all! I am very new to geocaching. I go with my kids, so we like to do a few in the same area without having to drive around a lot. I was hoping to be able to search a specific park, but I can't seem to get the correct results. I am trying to find caches in the Sourland Mountain Preserve in Hillsborough NJ, but the search gives me all caches in Tennessee. Can anyone tell me how to do this search correctly?!

The best answer I can offer is to become a Premium member and learn to do Pocket Queries. You can create a PQ based on zip code, name of city, etc,

If that's not an option for you, just use the map to scroll over to the area you're interested in, zoom in and hand pick the caches you'd like to seek, and send them one by one to your device. Kind of tedious but if you're not talking about a whole lot of caches it's manageable.

Another way would be to leverage a feature of the excellent Geocaching Map Enhancements browser script.

Install the script.

Open the geocaching map at the park in question.

Activate the context-click feature in the script by clicking on the "i" icon.

Click in the middle of the park and select Cache List

You will get a list of caches sorted by distance from where clicked, and in your case would look like this:

I took your term, Sourland Mountain Preserve in Hillsborough NJ and entered it as a search term in Google.

This got me a Zip Code 08844

Which I entered in Hide and Seek a Cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?lat=40.47901&lng=-74.62832&dist=10

I then looked around on the Geocaching.com map from the first cache on that list. I see Sourland Mountain to the east a bit. And lots of caches, in two main groups.

This cache is in the center of the group on the east end of the area and below is the map, centered on that cache

I do a lot of caching across the states with my job as a professional driver and what I do quite often in pull up the coordinates on my phone of where I am at and then enter that into the hide and seek. When you pull that page up, scroll down a bit and you will see where you can enter coordinates into the search and then how many miles to search. After the list loads you can then map the results and see all that are in that area. One thing I wish is that it would only map the ones on the list instead of everything. The other thing I do is at the very top of the search I'll put in the address of where I will be delivering to and change the mile from 100 to about 2 (don't want to walk or bike too far) and punch search. Again the list comes up and I see which ones I want to go for.

Hope this helps.
