Naming conventions for caches

Recommended Posts

I'll take the easy part - 'YES' spaces do count for whatever the limit is.......I've seen some very long ones.

I wouldn't worry too much about how many characters are allowed by the website. What's more important is how many characters are allowed by GPS units. Most have a limit of 30 characters.

I don't know what geocaching.com's limit is, but I can tell you that my PN-40 truncates the names to something like 30 characters, including spaces, significantly less that what you can see on the web. That gives me trouble when people have verbose names, particularly if it's a series with a long prefix. "Last Chance for Summer Caching 2" and "Last Chance for Summer Caching 3" got confusing because they weren't unique.

I think you need to create a cache simply called:

"I'm wondering what the longest name for a cache..."

OR

"12345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890"

assuming the 50 count is the limit.
