There is a new UK souvenir and also one for Ulster which is part of the UK. Do you get TWO souvenirs if you should find one cache in Ulster as it would be in both the UK and Ulster? The United Kingdom includes England,Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland (Ulster). Great Britain however excludes Northern Ireland in its geographical area. It's a very important distinction and one which I hope you correct very soon either by issuing souvenirs for the other regions in the UK or by correcting the name of th UK souvenir to Great Britain.

Exactly my point. The United Kingdom is the political unit and Great Britain the geographical one. The United Kingdom designation is the 'wrong' one and is inconsistent.

The UK souvenir should actually be called Great Britain. As the UK's full name is "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland"

 

The UK souvenir is for those finding caches in England, Scotland and Wales AKA Great Britain.

 

Cachers in the political area of NI do not get the UK one. They do get the Ulster one, which is logical from the GC.com point of view, so no issue there, it just needs the UK one to be correctly titled.

Agreed. So why does the description of the UK Souvenir say "The United Kingdom consists of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland", if NI is excluded? It may be true of the political UK, but not the geocaching region.

 

The same inconsistency is present in the maps on the statistics page, which highlight Northern Ireland as part of the UK when you log a cache in Great Britain.

 

This would all be much clearer if the name Great Britain were used throughout the site.

 

 

 

PS I've always felt that there was a similar issue with Alaska. Surely that's geographically part of Canada?
