Hi, These geocoins were first introduced in November 2010 by geoaware see this forum: http://earthtrek.lefora.com/2010/11/17/talk-about-earthtrek-and-win-a-new-earthtrek-geoco/ They were also sold on the website geoearthtrek.com (which no longer exists). I bought a few of them back then and also the green back pack with the hand print on it, which I use for geocaching. Quote Link to comment
+Landsharkz
Does anybody know who designed the green hand shaped geocoin made for the earth caching event? I just received on in a trade and would like to know more about it. Chris Edley designed them for the Geological Society of America. There's also a matching pin and they both have the 3D handprint under the translucent enamel. If you'd like to find out more about this coin design please send a note to chris at landsharkz.ca or grab a coffee and call the phone number you have on file. He's actually here in the office today! +fox-and-the-hound
The handprint is 3d? Hmmm... I'll have to call you then with some more questions. I've had an idea for a long while that I didn't know if it would be possible to produce. Finding this coin inspired me to bring the project back to the light so maybe, just maybe it will finally happen! Quote Link to comment
+fox-and-the-hound
Thanks JackHoe! The coolness factor for me is on the side with the text. The half-recessed patterning is textured without any overflow of the same texturing on the layer below. I can't think of a single coin I've ever seen that has a raised layer with texture above another texture or even smooth layer below it without some kind of barrier or break up between. It's kind of reversed from everything I've seen and really blew me away! Edited February 20, 2013 by fox-and-the-hound Quote Link to comment
