State of Hawaii lists?

Recommended Posts

I recently found a benchmark near the Honolulu airport (HNL) that was placed by the Airports Division, but it does not appear online from what I can tell. Any help in finding out more information about this marker would be appreciated. Also, if anyone has had success contacting the State agency to obtain lists, let me know the proper procedure. Thanks,

Donn (the D in geocaching nickname ADmuk)

It's hard to really read the designation but it appears to have ME-21 stamped on it. Using DSWorld, I was able to find benchmark with PID DN6349 that has designation ME-21. DN6349 appears to be at the Honolulu Airport.

Since this mark was monumented in the year 2011, it will not be listed on gc.com because they only have marks from the year 2000 and earlier. It is however listed on the NGS site, which I provided a direct link to (if this is the correct mark)

Here is a link to the bluebooked NGS datasheet and a copy of it posted. Does the description on the bottom of the datasheet match where you found the disk? It would help tremendously if you could tell us the coordinates where you found the disk.

Here is a screenshot of where Google Earth pinned this benchmark. Since the mark has posted adjusted coordinates, it should be fairly accurate as to the location.

When I go down to google streetview, I think I am able to see the disk in the sidewalk. The concrete contour and expansion gap seem to match the one in your pic.

Even if this isn't the correct mark, I've had fun researching it and using the computer to look for it virtually.

Back in 2006 Ed Carlson referred me to Chris Guerin at HIDOT and he said there was no online database. But he would forward any recoveries to the proper agency. He then asked if I was interested in looking for some benchmarks for him. I told him I would do that just tell me which ones he wanted me to look for. He never responded. Soon after that I noticed NGS was getting recoveries from HIDOT with the ID of (ROY).

I have not been very active because I was tending to personal business the last 6 years. That is done so I hope to get back to it.

Yes, that's definitely the benchmark I found. My apologies for not posting the coordinates earlier. These are from an iPhone, so take that into consideration:

N21 20.310

W157 55.590

Also, thank you for the contact information and URL. I'll use them in the future as there are a few others that I have to research. My search on Google didn't turn up the code, which is understandable given the specialized nature of this topic.

Now I'll have to see if I can log it at geocaching or Waymarking and close this out.

Much thanks to all who replied!

DN6349'NOTE YOU WILL NEED TO CONTACT THE AIRPORT MANAGER FOR AN ESCORT TO

DN6349'STATION.

The datasheet notes that you need an escort to the site (which is to be assumed the marker is within the fenced in tarmac area in the background). I guess someone at the HIDOT just copy pasted thru many of the marks in the area (examples are nearby DN6363 & DN6362).

HNL is "rich" in benchmarks. Unfortunately, many of them are in restricted areas, including nearby Hickam Air Force Base & Pearl Harbor.

I can help you with an easy one near that mark:...

Thanks, will find it next time I'm near the airport

Make sure to keep copies of the NGS reports with you at all times. It helped me in one spot with Airport Police in one case when I looked for a marker outside of airport property but was still in their patrol zone.
