Setting Up New Cache Notifications

Hello all,

I have seen mentioned on here how some members have notifications set up to alert them to new caches being published in their area. How does one do this? I went through the motions of what I believed to be the correct setup procedure but have still not been bodied of new listings going up. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Do you know if there have been new listings published?

There's various places that explain how to set up Instant Notifications:

Help Center → Premium Membership → Benefits → Instant Notifications

1.5. Instant Notifications

Add/Edit Instant Notifications

I'm trying to set-up notification of new caches in a specific area. I have reviewed all the help links here. According to the site, I can either choose a zip code or cordinates. I choose zip codes for each notification I create, but the results always result in distances from my home location. For example: I input a zip code 100 miles from my home with a radius of 10 miles from the subjust notification. Results are given from my home location. Any ideas?

Umm, do you mean instant notification, such as when a cache is published? All I see is

From what coordinates would you like to base this search?
Which, in my case are co-ords for 2 different caches, in 2 different cities I frequent. I think you are looking at where it says this

Look Up Postal Code:

which is look up, not search from. You can use it to look up co-ords for a zip code, although in my case it says postal code, but it won't accept a Canadian postal code, although it accepts US zip codes.

See what I've bolded. Is that it saying, for example, cache XXX has been published, 95 miles from your home location? If so then everything is correct. You would be getting notifications for your area 100 miles away, and they happen to be 95 miles from your home location.

Notifications are set up around coordinates. There is a Look Up Postal Code module but it can be buggy.

If you use it, check that the coords it produces are correct.

The mileage limit for a notification is 50 miles, not 100.

Torchwood Four, if you think you've got the notifications set up correctly, coords are right, type (PUBLISH logs) for Traditional caches (probably), then check that your ISP isn't flagging the emails as spam. I believe the subject line is Notification, or maybe [Notification] - the emails come from noreply@geocaching.com

At the bottom of the notification set up page, http://www.geocaching.com/notify/edit.aspx

be sure to check the enable box

Enable Notifications (Uncheck to Pause)

It appears as if the zip code to coordinates lookup is not working. If I put in a zip code and press "GO", it used to update the coordinates boxes with the proper coordinates. It no longer does that. Is there some way we can get someone at Groundspeak to look at this?
This is a known issue. The geocaching.com site uses a variety of geocoders, and some are better at identifying locations than others.
