+Heafudd Posted January 9, 2013 Share Posted January 9, 2013 When we set up a new notification it will not let us change the distance for the area we want to search ,( 80k and will not change this number) even when we start a new notification we are missing something. AZcachemeister Posted January 9, 2013 Share Posted January 9, 2013 The maximum distance a notification can extend is 50 miles, or (surprisingly) 80 kilometers. Most people base their notifications on their 'Home Co-ordinates', but you can make the center of your notification any set of co-ordinates you want. Extending your notification area to (let's say) 100 miles/160 kilometers would require 9 or 10 separate notifications with plenty of overlapping areas...meaning you might get three emails for one cache placed in just the wrong area. Do you really need to know RIGHT NOW that a cache was placed over 25 miles/40 kilometers away? Will you really drive that far just to get an FTF? Quote Link to comment

Keystone Posted January 10, 2013 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Unless you are frequently traveling a long distance to the same place, it might be more efficient to set up a "caches along a route" pocket query and/or a pocket query covering your destination area. Run the pocket query days in advance of your trip for planning purposes, and then run it again on the morning that you leave for your trip to pick up any new listings and to spot caches that were recently archived or disabled.
