+Jonsgirl7701
I have an idea for a cache but it may involve small amount of driving. Not far...if I calculated correctly from start to finish it totals about 5 miles. The furthest distance between any of the waypoints is about 1.5 miles, is this too far? This isn't in the wilderness it is in the burbs and if wanted one could do the whole thing walking, whole way can be accessed by sidewalks if they want. I haven't been able to find any officials rules but I haven't been able to find any multi that is like the one I have in mind. So I feel like I may be missing something. Quote Link to comment
+Panther&Pine
You can do that. You'll want to let folks know about how long of a drive/walk to help them plan their caching adventures. Remember that all physical stages must be 528 feet from any other physical stages of other caches. Quote Link to comment
+bjmccacher
Fair warning, I have a multi that requires quite a bit of driving and it rarely gets found! But then again, none of my multis get found very often! Quote Link to comment
+dakboy
I did a 2-part multi with the start & end 20 miles apart. And a 10-part (or thereabouts) multi which ended up being a 15 mile round trip by bike (and not easily completed by driving from access point to access point for the bike trail. I have even heard of a multi with the 2 stages being over 1000 miles apart. Quote Link to comment
+clarinetqueen
This one is several hundred miles. I asked the CO about how far it would be for me (I'm a little ways from Stage 1), and I want to say it was about a 600 mile trip. The Road to Destiny Quote Link to comment
+CanadianRockies
There is no distance limit for multi-caches, but I'd suggest that those that involve lots of effort should offer geocachers better reasons for doing them. When I attempt a longer multi-cache, I generally like to see some sort of theme running through the various stages. Here's a 16-stage multi that requires about 380 kilometres of driving on mostly rural roads. It has been found 18 times in 20 months and has 9 favorite points. Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
I think as long as you mention up front how long the entire multi is, go for whatever distance you feel like. I once found a first stage of a multi and it turned out the 2nd stage was over 15 miles away. I found that to be mildly annoying. Quote Link to comment
GPS-Hermit
It is really an issue if you want your caches to be found or not . You seriosly limit participants by increasing distance between cache legs. Most cachers want to complete the same day! Now distance cost money! I really enjoy reading all the logs people do, so distance would limit my fun as well. Quote Link to comment
AZcachemeister
Keep out the riff-raff, make it a long multi. Quote Link to comment
+hurleyanne
I know of a 2-stage multi where the start and the finish are approx. 1500 km apart! Quote Link to comment
+JKMonkey
I have even heard of a multi with the 2 stages being over 1000 miles apart. That's insane! Who would travel over 1000 miles for one cache? Quote Link to comment
+LightHouseSeekers
I have even heard of a multi with the 2 stages being over 1000 miles apart. That's insane! Who would travel over 1000 miles for one cache? If one point was near by my home coords and the other was near a location that I travelled to on a regular basis I would consider it. Otherwise not very likely. Quote Link to comment
+dprovan
If one point was near by my home coords and the other was near a location that I travelled to on a regular basis I would consider it. Otherwise not very likely. Well, it depends on whether the other was somewhere interesting. That might induce me to visit even though I otherwise never would have. Which would probably have been the point. Has anyone done the multi that goes from one side of the Alps to the other? I don't think that's 1000 miles, but it's a fer piece. And you actually have to hike it in order to collect the required info to find the final. Quote Link to comment
+Viajero Perdido
That's insane! Who would travel over 1000 miles for one cache? Me. But it all depends on the cache. I would phrase it as, What kind of cache inspires anyone to travel over 1000 miles? BTW, I've found a multi where the two stages were a few inches apart. Quote Link to comment
