Monitoring 7042 KHz:

Recommended Posts

Due to the bad, icky storms moving across the

bay area this weekend, I've set up one of my

AN/TRC-77's in our living room, and patched it

into the dipole antenna that runs across our lot..

Will be reading books, and monitoring 7042 KHz,

throughout most of this weekend .. no plans

to go out in this mess!!..

For any geocachers that are also into ham radio,

thought I'd let you know where I'll be hanging

out this weekend.. icon_rolleyes.gif

Trish

In God we trust .. all others, we monitor.

I punched in 7.042 Mhz on my Drake R8 and all I heard was deetadeetadeetdeet and more of the same. A good station to monitor, if you want to finish a real hard crossword puzzle without all the distractions of the English language.

It could have been one of the single letter beacons, which repeat the same letter over and over (it does what it says on the wrapper!) or, were you listening to something that sounded like;

da-di-da-dit da-da-di-dah, da-di-da-dit da-da-di-dah, da-di-di-dit da-da-dit da-da-da-da-dah da-di-dit di-da-da-dah di-da

Not that I was on 40 metres this weekend as I was experimenting (I have authorisation via a Notice of Variation) on 60 metres (5MHz) on CW.

If so, that was probably people using Morse to communicate. There are some of use that still do. icon_biggrin.gif

(My Geocaching/Geodashing name is not an accident - I do use Morse. HI)
