Top caches in Leicestershire/East Midlands

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum (and aware I might've left this a bit late!) but we bought our friend's children a TB for Christmas, which they're going to race against the one we bought for our daughter.

We're taking them out for the day on Wednesday and as it's their first geocaching experience we'd like to take them to a particularly cool/unusual cache. We live in Leicester but are happy to travel for about an hour in any direction.

Can anyone recommend some good'uns?

My favourite cache remains ' All tooled up' GCM 80G (in Croft) which isn't too far from Leicester. However a good start to finding some cool caches is to go into the hide and seek a cache page, key in your location and say a 30 mile radius. When the results come up click on the blue favourites rosette at the top of the page and this will give you a list of the most favourited caches in your area. Something cool should catch your eye in that list.

Hi all,

Thanks so much for your suggestions so far :)

Bradgate Park.

There's a few caches around, take your pick!

We personally have done all the Bradgate caches but we're intending on taking the kids there first because we know for certain where they can find two caches to leave the TBs... disappointment-proof! ;)

Hi

Although I live in Norfolk, I was on holiday in Derbyshire, and can highly recommend Alphabet Soup A. Its just off the main A6 through Darley Dale.

The rest of the series is also worth a look.

Good luck

Andrew

Sadly this series is Premium-Member Only... which we're not... yet! (I'm sure we'll give in eventually (or convince someone to gift it to us!) so I'll keep them in mind - thanks for the suggestion, we often go on holiday in that area! I've never seen a cache with so many 'favourites' as Alphabet Soup A!!

You've already found caches I was going to suggest!

West Midlands?

45 to 60 minutes from Leicester. Go by the Fosse Way, there's caches to find on the way. :)

Between Leamington and Banbury, look for caches by Marrow Bone.

I couldn't believe how many caches there were by 'Marrow Bone'! Are there any in particular you recommend?

That really DOES look like a cool cache, thank you!! :) I can't sort things by most-favourited ('cause I'm not a premium member), unfortunately, but I'm scanning through the list to see which are particularly popular.

A lot of good caches in Norhants.

These are close to each other and good fun in Northampton.

Or there are these tunnel caches on the Brampton Valley Way near Market Harborough:

There are other good ones on the BVW too.

Sadly, all but one of the ones you've recommended are premium-member only... I'm sensing a 'need' for premium membership!! The second one looks really cool but says it's definitely not for kids so I think I'll add it to my list for another day.

Keep 'em coming! :)

I haven't done many of Marrow Bones caches, but those I have done have stood out. I know the area, and from the few caches I have done, have no problem recommending them.

Also fellow cachers on the CacheWalker site have done various parts and were all also equally impressed.

Around Chesterton try the ones around CAGIVA V RAPTOR http://coord.info/GC3HJNT there's also a windmill, well worth a visit, especially around sunset. Some GREAT views over Warwickshire!

Have done DEZ REZ 2 http://coord.info/GC3GG00 at Oakley Wood. Worth a visit (even though the crematorium is there!)

Oakley Wood Camp

Within Oakley Wood can be found an area of extensive earthworks known as Oakley Wood Camp. It is not entirely clear what the area was ever used for, or indeed what period it was constructed.

Warning !

I shall shortly be moving up to Leicestershire from Surrey.

Looking forwards to all these caches recommended and of course placing a few of my own.

I also want to attend local events- nearest group to Newbold Vernon / Market Bosworth ?

Hi look forward to seeing you around as we are nearby in Nuneaton. Looks like we will need to be getting our extreme 5/5 caching equipment ready. Emcache is the local caching group and I am aware they have an event coming up - see GC446DQ for details.
