Creation of PQs from Lists needs more options

When creating a PQ from a List the options to include or exclude caches is greatly restricted. For instance, I find a list of local cemetery caches created by another cacher and I want to create a PQ from that list but exclude caches I've already found. That is not possible with the current options. Thanks.

I would use this feature on a "solved puzzles" bookmark list. Then, I wouldn't need to delete found caches from myy "solved unfound puzzles" bookmark list. I could just let the new improved PQ system exclude found caches from the PQ automatically.

PS: I thought this suggestion already existed, but I couldn't find it. It was probably in one of the other feedback systems. Thanks for bringing it up again.

You might want to read what the OP is asking for again. They're asking for an expansion of the PQ options for bookmark lists, not complaining about other peoples' lists.

A new filter "Only changed caches" would be nice.

This filter should only catch caches with a changed listig. e.g. Coordinates, Listing Text, Hints, Puzzle formular or so on. And not a changed log.

I created some pocket queries to query a radius about 100KM around my home zone. I added these pq´s to GSAK.

Now i do not want to run these huge amount of pq´s to refresh all caches. This generates a huge load on the GS Servers.

I thing many users have such pq´s running a frequent time.

Now it would be nice to run only one pq with an greater radius around my home zone, to get only the changed caches. Not the changed logs, only those where the listing or coordinates was changed.

I'm not being angsty about this, seriously, when I'm using a PQ and then filtering by using GSAK I'm having to cut out the excess information that I would have preferred to eliminate at the PQ level. Because of this I have to generate more PQs to get my data.

The PQ generation system has long been overdue for an overhaul.

I believe it has been nearly two years now since such an overhaul was proclaimed to be in the works.

We can only hope the improvements will possibly address this issue as well.

Taking up more CPU cycles on the machine, using up bandwidth, and slowing down everyone else's PQ delivery. :mad:

I can't speak for all "smartphone users", but I do most of my geocaching with my smartphone, and I certainly do use PQs. I would very much like to be able to filter bookmark list PQs based on the same criteria used for location-based PQs, especially "I haven't found".

But even if you don't use a smartphone, it's just easier for a lot of people to drop a GPX file onto the folder for their GPSr, than to figure out how to use a full-featured third-party app like GSAK (assuming they're using MS Windows and can run GSAK).

Is it annoying to repeat one's self like this?

Ideally, the new PQ interface will have an advanced mode where you could enter in pseudo-SQL statements much like the WHERE window in a GSAK macro, like this:
Difficulty = 1 AND Terrain = 3.5
OR
Difficulty = 1 AND Terrain > 4.0
OR
Difficulty = 1.5 AND Terrain > 3.5 
If that's too much, then a semi-advanced mode might work where you have the checkbox selection interface now, but the ability to add multiple instances of them.

If so, let me know and I'll stop.

Doesn't one need a copy of MS Windows XP in order to run it on VirtualBox?

But regardless, that doesn't address the issues of unwanted caches filling up one's PQs (even if GSAK can filter them out after you've already downloaded them), or of requiring extra steps rather than just downloading the PQ directly to one's device.

Yes. It is easy to find a workable XP install key; when Dell or HP loads a computer with their version, the 25-character key is from the "OEM" image that they load at the factory and is not unique. It will not match the 25-character key that is stuck to the side of the machine with the Microsoft hologram. Long-story-short every desktop computer has a valid, unauthenticated key that can be used to do an install of XP. This is something I have had to do multiple times to get very old software to run in Windows 7 (before they provided a single-licence "XP mode") and now inside Hyper-V in the detestable Windows 8.

But regardless, that doesn't address the issues of unwanted caches filling up one's PQs (even if GSAK can filter them out after you've already downloaded them), or of requiring extra steps rather than just downloading the PQ directly to one's device.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the alleged upgrade to the PQ interface from whence it should come. Since there are no expectations being set, I have none.

Besides, it is fun (and my job) to pick up others' slack.

FWIW, "Use GSAK" is not a very satisfactory response to the OP's concern. Bookmark lists are not really very usable for more than the most basic functions; I completely fail to understand why Groundspeak doesn't expend the minimal amount of effort it would take to make them really useful.

What costs money is getting rid of the nag screen that appears for increasingly long periods of time before the program runs. And its worth every penny.

FWIW, "Use GSAK" is not a very satisfactory response to the OP's concern. Bookmark lists are not really very usable for more than the most basic functions; I completely fail to understand why Groundspeak doesn't expend the minimal amount of effort it would take to make them really useful.

Concur. All they'd need to do is add an import/export feature that would allow you to dump out or paste in a list of GC codes.

I think you mean the install disk? You can download an ISO image of the OEM install CD from the internet. You'd create a Virtual Box machine, mount the ISO file and boot from it.

Yes.

Of course, that would also include all the functionality provided by the various macros.

Personally I'd like to have a somewhat reduced feature in comparison to the request of the Thread-starter here:

I think that Groundspeak should puts some effort into the "change coordinates" feature and make it more useable.

In the current situation I can update the coordinates of a Mystery or Multi-cache after I solved the riddles but this information is then buried there.

When I use the official Geocaching-App on my Android-phone I cannot determine if the displayed coordinates are the original ones or the updated ones.

When using my Garmin device it would also help a lot if there would be a new PQ type called "Only Caches with used-corrected coordinates".

I know that most of this is possible with the 3rd-party GSAK, but to run GSAK I need to have Windows running on my machine here.

It would still be useful to be able to apply additional criteria to list-based PQs, for example: caches on this list that I have not found.
