Help a beginner?

Recommended Posts

So I just looked into this the other day, and decided it is definitely something I want to try out. I went out for the first time today, to three separate cache sites, and came home empty handed. I was just wondering if anyone has some tips for me to help me get started with my first find. Also, does anyone know of a good place to find a geo-buddy? I would love to do this with other people, but don't know of anyone else who might be interested. If there is a forum or something for hooking up with fellow cachers, that would be awesome. Thanks in advance for all your help.

Also, check for a local event cache and go meet some more cachers! Geocachers are a very friendly and fun bunch of folks... you will have a great time and will learn a lot just talking to more experiencde cachers.

Happy Geocaching!

Thanks, I did check out that forum, which doesn't seem to be quite as lively as this one, but hopefully I can get hooked up with some cachers in the area. Of course I was all excited to go out this weekend, but have now come down with stomach flu. Maybe I'll find my first cache on the first day of the new year!

Are you on Facebook? The MN geocachers assoc page is very active and full of twin cities cachers like myself :). Be sure to watch for Breakfast Buddies events. You can meet a lot of fun cachers at those.

I know it is a bit of a drive from the NW metro but there is a Geocaching 101 event in Hudson, WI, on Saturday January 19th.

There's also a pizza event in Princeton Saturday after next (the 12th). It'd be a good opportunity to meet other geocachers and maybe pick up some tips. You can learn a lot just by listening to cachers swapping stories.
