Guest mcb
Here's the deal. I have a broken Garmin 38 I would like to sell for parts. I thought I could fix it but the surface mount technology is far beyond my skills. I have carefully opened the case. There is very little wear or damage to the case; only a few small marks around the seam where I pried it open and there is a small scratch on the left side middle of the screen. Once open the problem with the unit became obvious. The left seam had leaked a little water into the case and the screws holding the circuit board down had rusted and left oxide on several of the soldier joints on the left edge of the circuit board. I careful cleaned it as best I could and tried both battery and external power with no luck. The rest of the unit is in good shape. The screen look good the button are all clean and have little wear. The antenna was not damaged. The battery and data port seals are in are in good shape. The pins for the data/power port are in mint condition. So if you want it to try to repair it or use for parts to fix up a functional 38 this is the unit for you. Garmin will fix it for $69.00 dollars but I not sure it worth that much. I am only asking $28.00 and I will pay shipping if its in the continental US. You also get a Garmin case (fits the 38 snugly and is showing some wear.), the owner's manual (Its been used but in good condition. The original receipt is stapled in the front cover), and the quick reference card (in very good condition). I do not have the original box.
