kerenza224 & the dog Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Hey geocachers! I really want to know how to become a volenteer to help all you geocachers! since it took me 5 days to get one to publish my geocache! Quote
+Gitchee-Gummee Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Five days to have your first published, eh? You did OK, then. What are you volunteering for? If you like you can maintain my caches for me.... might be a long flight, though. If you are volunteering to be a reviewer, you just killed your chances -- so to speak -- by volunteering. Reviewers are not chosen from the volunteer list. They typically are enlisted (asked really, by TPTB -- some decline the invite). In the long run, it makes sense to seek out potential reviewers rather than to maintain a list of "volunteers". Volunteers oftentimes have a unspoken motive or agenda for volunteering. Actively seeking a potential reviewer is based more on past, continuing and projected involvement as well as commitment. Quote

+T.D.M.22 Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 More than 3 months experience, basic math, knowing the guidlines and all that(Groundspeak advises that caches may take up to 7 days before they are reviewed.) and not replying to 9 year old threads. Well those are for Reviewers. If you want to volunteer I have some caches that need to be repaired, replaced, and placed. It's a bit cold out now. You could also do 2 or 3 of my local power trails and sign my name. If you meet the "requirements" mentioned by others you may be contacted if a reviewer decides s/he need help or wants to retire. I think they are pretty set for reviewers now. Quote
+The_Incredibles_ Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 (edited) To be a reviewer, you need years of experience, tons of finds and hides including events, and an invitation. Good speeling too. Edited November 23, 2012 by The_Incredibles_ Quote

And true appreciation to those that sought to offer constructive advice. I cannot agree more. And if the avatar is accurate, the OP is a young geocacher, as well*. I think a direct answer would have been sufficient. * It didn't take much digging to learn that the OP is 10 years old. As I recall, at 10 years old, 2 days seemed like an eternity. Quote
Keystone Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Under the Forum Guidelines, a minor's posting is required to be supervised by an adult. An adult presumably would have caught what I charitably characterized as a mathematical error. Had it been my daughter, I would have said "it's probably not a good idea to falsely accuse your reviewer of taking five days to provide an initial review when it only took two days for your cache to be published." Maybe that's just me, though. from my perspective, the OP did not establish a positive framework for a discussion of the issue. For a very recent example of how I respond to legitimate inquiries of this nature, see this post. Quote

+The_Incredibles_ Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 (edited) Cmon. Let's be honest here. What 10 year old would really believe they could be made a reviewer? The post was a complaint about the speed their cache was published - with a blatant misrepresentation about how long it took. Not the best way to introduce yourself to the forum folks. If you're serious, I think having hosted some events is a big help. I do know of someone who only joined in like 2009, and was appointed a reviewer by 2010. I'll say no more, as this is one of those reviewers who attempts to keep their identity secret. Not from me though. Quote
