Find of old survey marker

Recommended Posts

An 1850's survey marker was found recently in Michigan.

I'm not sure if this is the same as a benchmark find, but it is very similar.

Pretty amazing to find a marker that hasn't been recorded in 160+ years.

I'd love to hear other stories like this...

...so he destroyed the mark after 150 years just so he can brag about it?

A surveyor never removes any mark until he has documented its position. They replace them with more permanant corner.

Plus didn't they find it in a stream?

So if a piece of wood THAT old can be found - should I hold out hope that nails in stumps could still be there since the early 1880's?
