+MBQS Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 An 1850's survey marker was found recently in Michigan. I'm not sure if this is the same as a benchmark find, but it is very similar. Pretty amazing to find a marker that hasn't been recorded in 160+ years. DNR surveyor discovers 1850 mark I'd love to hear other stories like this... Quote

A surveyor never removes any mark until he has documented its position. They replace them with more permanant corner. Quote

+frex3wv Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 So if a piece of wood THAT old can be found - should I hold out hope that nails in stumps could still be there since the early 1880's? Quote
