+Pee & Pee
Hello all you lovely people, first time poster here so be gentle please I am trying to create a private cashe so that i can use this as a means to ask my partner to marry me... Is there anyway that you can set up a geocache that is private? As i woudln't want anyone else getting to the ring first!! Thanks for any help and advice you can offer. P Quote Link to comment
+Beach_hut
Hi Pee :-) You could set up a cache and don't list it until afterwards. I'm sure someone asked a similar question before. I'll see if I can find the link? I hope the answer comes back yes :-) Edit: Found it! Edited November 15, 2012 by Beach_hut Quote Link to comment
+Pee & Pee
Beach Hut, you are a legend... So I can set one up on my computer and Iphone, and then just not publish it? she can then use my phone to find it right? When we're done, I can then publish and leave our story for others or something like that? Quote Link to comment

Exactly :-) or you could be really sneaky, use another cache listing nearby and fake the co-ords (and the hint) to change them to wherever you're putting your cache, so she doesn't suspect anything, and she'll hopefully think she's looking for someone else's cache and not something you set up... +313JTG
I once saw a video on YouTube where a guy took his girlfriend to a recently published cache. The cache was placed by the guy's friend, so they could arrange it where the guy would be FTF and propose to his girlfriend. It barely worked as a FTF hound came rolling in about ten minutes after they found the cache, but it still worked out. Best of luck, sounds like a cool idea Quote Link to comment
+Don_J
I have seen more than one cache muggled before it even got published. Do you want to take that chance? Quote Link to comment
+Graculus
I was asked to review and publish a cache exactly like this. The guy wanted to have the ring in the cache too. I reviewed the cache then said I'd publish it at a certain time one evening allowing him time to take his girlfriend there beforehand. I did stress to him the risk of leaving a ring in the cache but he was happy to do that. Unfortunately I've no idea whether his girlfriend said yes or no Chris Graculus Volunteer UK Reviewer for geocaching.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- UK Geocaching Wiki Geocaching.com Help Center UK Geocaching Information & Resources website Quote Link to comment
+theosus
Could you just tell her you're setting up a new one and want her to give it a "test run" before it goes live? Then she is almost guaranteed to get it. Post it later with the story on the site. Quote Link to comment
