Change Cache coordinates

Recommended Posts

We have had a series of vandalism acts on our only cache, and thus we decided to move the location of the cache. However, it won't let me change the cache location on the website, says it is too far from the previous one. I sent an email to Groundspeak but have not had a response. Is there another way to change the coordinates without deleting this cache and creating a new one?

Thanks

Thanks! Can you tell me how to find out who the local reviewer is?

Go to your cache page and scroll down to the end of your online logs. The very first person listed on your online logs is the Reviewer......Cache-tech. Click on the Reviewers name and you will go to the Reviewer's profile page where you can click on "send a message".

Cache Ownership: A Long-Term Relationship

6.11. Editing a Published Listing: Major Change.

If you need to change the coordinates beyond 0.1 miles (528 feet or 161 m), or change the type of cache, please contact your local reviewer. The reviewer will check the changes for adherence to the current guidelines and notify you when the changes have been made, or suggest that a new cache listing should be submitted. Please be sure to follow any instructions the reviewer may send you.

There is a link to the profile page of the reviewer that reviewed your cache listing in the bottom of your cache page (you must be logged in). If you email a reviewer and do not receive a reply within one week, the reviewer account may be inactive and you will need to contact us at Groundspeak.

contact@geocaching.com

When you contact the reviewer or Groundspeak please provide the cache name and GC Code for the listing.

IMHO.... Archive the old cache and put out a new one.

This gives people a chance to find something new and most likely the D&T rating of the cache with a 2 mile move is going to change, along with the description and Hint. That far of a move is a new cache.... IMO.

Yep.

There are exceptions. I saw a puzzle cache move from one in-theme object to another in-theme object a few miles away, with only minor adjustments to the puzzle for the new coordinates. The CO thought the puzzle cache was essentially the same, and the volunteer reviewer agreed.

But as a general rule, if you're moving it that far, you should be able to explain clearly why it should be the same cache. If you don't have a good reason to keep it the same cache, archive it and create a new listing for the new location.
