Deleting Just the Photo from a Log Find on One of My Caches

We have a couple of cachers near our area who love to take photos of themselves with the caches they find and post them with their logs. I don't think this is always appropriate because it gives away the type/size of the container for those who might be going out to seek the cache. I've learned not to open these cacher's images before I look for one of the caches they have found previously because it ruins the surprise of looking for the cache. But now they have found one of our caches and have posted a photo of it. I wanted to contact them and ask them to delete the photo from their logs but my husband said to let it go because it wasnt a big deal. It bothers me but I agreed. But now we are getting ready to place some new caches that have some unique containers and/or locations and I don't want anyone to post photos of the cache. I've state that in the listings (which aren't yet enabled) but there is always someone who doesn't read that part.

So as the CO, I know I can delete someone's log if I find it incorrect/inappropriate. And I know I could write and ask someone who posted a photo to take it down but that could take time before they responded and I don't want others viewing the log photos before that happened. So can I delete just the photo from a log?

As the cache owner, you can delete just the photo.

Open the log in question, and above the photo you will see "edit image". Click that and you will go to a page where you have the options "refresh image" or "delete image".

I haven't done it, and don't want to experiment, so I haven't gone further than that. I would assume that you will be asked "are you sure?" once you've clicked "delete image".

Contacting the person whose photo(s) you've deleted and explaining the reason why you've done it is highly recommended.

You'll be asked to state why you're deleting the photo, and that statement will go to the photo owner as part of a log.

You'll generate a reviewer note type log when you delete a photo. The photo owner will receive a notification.

Unfortunately, as far as I know this hasn't been fixed, the "reviewer note" log will also go to any Watchers or bookmark list owners who have "receive logs" checked on their bookmarks. They'll get image deleted reason AND a link to the image, and the log. The image link will work, you can see the pic. I just used my basic member account to log an image to a cache I own, and then deleted that image for the info below.

Here is the reviewer note log generated when the owner deletes an image - this log is automatically archived, it does not appear on the page.

This behavior has been reported as bug. (If you delete an image from a TB you own, the email log type is DNF! You've just DNF'ed your own trackable! )

Yes, it was submitted as a bug on 2/4/12 and confirmed as such two days later. It's now over eight month later so who knows if it will ever get fixed. Sending a direct link to an image to the very people that you don't want to see the image, just doesn't make sense. Until they fix this, I would just delete the entire log. This way no one gets notified but the log owner. I would put a disclaimer on your cache page, "Note: To preserve the intended caching experience, logs containing spoiler images will be deleted without notice. You are encouraged to re-post your log without the spoiler image. Thank You"

I prefer to get a nice and friendly email, asking me to change a log or delete a picture my self,

rather than the CO do it him self..

and maybe informing me the reason why later he is bother to do so..

just my 1 cent if you like to be good friends with your local cachers :-)

I have no objection to doing this and it would be my preference but if the cacher doesn't repsond right away to delete the photo himself then the photo stays available for viewing until he takes care of it which might be days or weeks. That is the main reason I would want to know how to do it myself - if he doesn't respond right away. And by the way... we are on friendly terms with this cacher. I just object to his posting photos of the caches he finds because it takes away from the experience of others finding it themselves and the work the CO put into making a creative container or special hiding place.
