Trackables in New Caches

We are confused about the process in which you log a trackable Geocoin in your new cache. Just turned in our 1st cache for approval. It's in the "pending" state now and we understand it might be there for several days. We've activated a FTF Geocoin, and have Received a "TB" code from the Geocaching site. Now it says to "log" the TB into our cache. When & how do you do this? We didn't see any options for adding trackable information in an inventory or log when we set up our cache. ??

After reading some of the forums, we're going to go back and revise our TB log with info that says the FTF coin is "adoptable" so whoever finds it knows that we meant for them to take it, and, hopefully, use it as one of their FTF coins. Or not - up to the finder- right? We want to make that clear as there appears to be some confusion about geocoins. Ours was meant to be taken by the FTF person and used as they want - even if we'd like it to travel on in caches. Are we totally confused about this?

Any help would be appreciated!

Well first off visit your cache page and go to log a visit just like you do when you find a cache. BUT you use the WRITE NOTE option and just say something like dropping a trackable. Underneath the part where you wrote the note, there is a list of any trackables in your possession. to the right of each trackable is a drop down menu. change it to say dropped off.

Now if it is meant as a prize you should not have activated it but since you did write on the cache page-use the write note or edit the cache description to say the trackable is for the FTF.

I see that you now have the coin in your inventory. Now you can write a note to your cache page, and the coin will be in your Inventory so you can "drop" the coin along with that note.

You're correct, you need to clarify what you mean by, "available for the first person to find our first hide".

99.99% of the time when this is posted to a cache page, the trackable is simply meant to travel. Very very often, it doesn't belong to the person who owns the cache, they've simply picked up a trackable and put it into their own cache. And say something that suggests that trackable is a gift to the first finder - when it's not really anything that they can gift. It's just a trackable that any finder might choose to move, or not.

If your intent is to give the trackable to FTF through the adoption utility, say that in your note that you use to drop it into the cache! And perhaps again on the trackable page.

What you did is not "wrong", but the methodology seems a bit awkward...

If you want to supply a geocoin as a FTF prize, and the intent is to have that person KEEP and own that trackable, it is far easier just to put it in the cache as SWAG. That is, not activate it and not "log" it into the cache.

Once the FTF person takes the geocoin, activating it is a seamless and easy process.

We have done the same, placing the unactivated 'coin in an envelope well marked as being an FTF prize... no mistaking it.

--Comments on the cache page and on the trackable page are excellent, but I have noticed that there are many (MANY) that do not read the cache page until after hunting up the cache. Likewise in finding a trackable.--

Although adoption is not difficult, there are many cachers out there that haven't a clue adoption is possible.

Just sayin'... you took steps that were unnecessary and yet have more upcoming unnecessary steps to take. Not wrong, just awkward.
