Download to Magellan 110

Recommended Posts

We recently got a magellan 110 and downloaded several geocaches to the unit. We are premium members. However, now when we try to download, we say "send to my gps", it brings up the download to gps box, says the communicator is found, but the download button is grayed out. Any suggestions?

I have the same GPS and like it very much. You need to make sure that it is connected to your pc. It will give you that message every time if you forget to hit "connect to pc".

We have the GPS connected to the computer with the USB cable. Where would we say "connect to PC"?

Don't remember doing that when we downloaded previously and don't see anywhere that it says that.

Do you have a copy of the manual for you GPS? If not you can download a copy by clicking here. Page 12 lists two methods for getting geocaches on your GPS. The manual calls this Installing Geocaches. The 'send to GPS' method which uploads one geocache listing in the form of a .loc file at a time and the 'drag n drop' method which allows you to update multiple cache listings at once after you've created a pocket query and downloaded the .gpx file.

I gave up on the send to GPS feature long ago. It's just to clunky for my tastes. Also there are practical reasons to use pocket queries over send to GPS.

I don't know what a pocket query is.

On your profile page, in the Premium Features category.... You can run a Pocket Query for up to 1,000 caches at a time and download them to your unit. These will have all the cache info, including hints.

A fine tutorial: http://www.markwell.us/pq.htm

He means when you plug the 110 into the USB port, and on the screen of the 110, a "connection detected" dialog box comes up. You have two choices, "connect to PC" or "Power only". "Connect to PC" should be default. You have to hit enter (in other words, push in the Joystick) to select "connect to PC". Otherwise, nothing is going to happen if you try to send to GPS.
