Apple maps in io6. Uh oh.

iPhone and iPad users; the Apple maps that have replaced Google Maps in the io6 upgrade yesterday are, well if you haven't seen them have a quick search. They leave a lot to be desired!

The Groundspeak app seems to use them *argh* instead of Google Maps.

Does anyone know a way around this? I'm sure there'll be a Google Maps app at some point.

We use PQs on our Garmin for caching trips but you can't beat the iPhone & maps feature for spontaneous oh-go-on-then-let's-see-if-there-are-any-around-here moments.

The only way would be to reinstall an early version from your itunes back up I think, Otherwise your stuck with it

You can always open Safari, go to the Google Map website and see the Google maps that way.

Can't you roll back to IO5? Or do Apple dictate which operating system you have to use?

I *think* you can't go back once you have installed iOS 6.

Hopefully some clever soul at Groundspeak will ensure we can use decent maps. I suspect they might take some persuading though, Apple maps don't seem to be as bad in the US as they are in many areas of the UK.

We've both upgraded to ios6 on the iPhone. The Geocaching app has updated as well.

 

BUT, I'm still using Google maps! The app allows you to set Google maps as the default.

 

Hopefully this well help; unless of course I don't understand your issue correctly!

At least your app lets you select a map type all Android gets is 'Street or Satellite'
