+UMainah
So I found a waymark nearby that has been duplicated and I was wondering if anything should be done. Here is the waymark: http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WM15P_Corn_Maze http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WM15Z_Thunder_Road_Farm The two marks are the same place, I've been to the waymark many years ago. They are both listed under the same category. They have identical coordinates (how?). They were posted by two different people. They were both approved by Jeremy on the same day about 30 mins apart. The same identical image is used for both. Is it possible to merge waymarks? Quote Link to comment

One possible explanation is that the coordinates of one were off, and therefore when the second was approved, the reviewer wasn't aware of the other since it didn't show up on a proximity checker. You don't see this very often, but it has happened. Edit: just looked at the waymarks you mentioned. I do think it's really odd that both waymarks have the exact same default photo. Hmmm. +fi67
This is really odd and should be corrected. They are from the very early days of Waymarking. I guess you spotted the first duplicates ever. You could post it to the First of its Kind category ;-) Quote Link to comment

+Bear and Ragged
Interesting that the setter of one has visited the other! Quote Link to comment
+BruceS
These are from the early days of Waymarking. People were just trying to figure out how things worked back then. At various times the proximity warning has not worked correctly on the site, not sure if it worked back then or not. Quote Link to comment
+Max and 99
It was fun to read a forum discussion on this matter from 7 years ago! Even back then, a certain category was considered "humongous". It appears that at first, the proximity alert would show for only the person creating the waymark, with the function available to category officers later on. Look how far Waymarking has come! http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=112452 Quote Link to comment
+Tante.Hossi
I know three other dublitated waymark sets. And they have also been reviewed by Jeremy himself. Webcam Oberer Marktplatz Freudenstadt, BW (posted by myself) Webcam Oberer Marktplatz Freudenstadt, BW (posted by Dáin & Olík) and this one Webcam Unterer Marktplatz Freudenstadt, BW (posted by myself) Webcam Unterer Marktplatz Freudenstadt, BW, Germany (posted by Dáin & Olík) and also this one Webcam Marktplatz Tübingen, BW (posted by myself) Webcam Neckarbrücke, Tübingen, BW (posted by Dáin & Olík) They have all the same text, the same picture and the same coordinates. The miracle solution: They have been created out of an uncategoriezed waymark. Maybe the proximity alert wouldn't work in such a case. Quote Link to comment

+haggaeus
Happened to me as well: WM8G83 Sedlcany Marian Column WME6BH Plague Column, Sedlcany, Czech Republic I discovered it by an accident, browsing through new Baroque waymarks, posted a note to the duplicate, and the poster contacted me, confirming that he didn't receive any proximity alert. He is a frequent poster in this category, so I don't think he would post an uncategorized WM - guess sometimes the proximity alert just doesn't work. Quote Link to comment
+Max and 99
Is it possible to merge waymarks? Just my thought on the matter.... there are so few of these duplicate waymarks that I think we should let them stay as is. They're just flukes, and it will give us something to talk about years from now on the forums. Quote Link to comment
+terratin
I noticed a few of those here in Denmark as well. *searches* http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WM7K4A_Copenhagen_Airport_Kastrup_Copenhagen_Denmark http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WM3N4X_Kbenhavns_Lufthavn_Copenhagen_Airport_Copenhagen_Denmark and http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WM43A4_Storebltsbroen_The_Great_Belt_Bridge_Denmark http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WM7G0J_stbroen_over_Storeblt_Eastbridge_over_the_Great_Belt I could find immediately. I think I've seen a few more as well... Quote Link to comment
