Science EXPO

Recommended Posts

Got some time to plan a science expo project for my son on a few months.

Any ideas on projects related to caching would be greatly appreciated.

Not familiar with a science expo. It this just a report what is geocaching or is it a science experiment based program? That can help a bit with more details.

A Science expo is a science based project that needs to be done - with some research and experimentation where one variable is changed and it's effect on another vairbale it then measured.

And conclusions made into the report.

Ok, we call them Science Fairs in the States. Your explanation helps.

Here are a few ideas. I'll list them as a question. He can change them to a hypothesis and formulate the experiment around them.

Can geocaching be used as a weight loss/fitness program?

What type of GPS unit is the most accurate: car, hand held or smart phone?

Can GPS units be used to help estimate storm damage? (mark waypoints, measure mass of debris, calculate vectors and estimate wind and water speed and directions)

Need more ideas? Since you published in the 8-12 forum, I assumed he was in upper middle school or high school, so going for some research based ones. Need more?

Thank you - certainly a great starting point - I like the accuracy of various units idea. I will monitor this thread for a few months (still have some time - we are starting early this year :) )

And then will review before the start.

Thanks - and keep the ideas coming as a resource to all.

Building on your ideas - I suppose - checking accuracy of the same GPSr unit in different environments - mountain top/valley/sub urban/built up urban/forest. To assess effect of topography/landscape on GPSr accuracy.
