+TheElliottClan2012
Hello All! Apologies first of all as i have just posted this same question in the "General" section of the forum and then i noticed there was a UK section so i thought i should place it here also......anyways....... We (The Elliott Clan 2012) have just started out in the world of Geocaching and are loving every minute of it! However today we got our GPS device. A basic Garmin Etrex (the old yellow version with a black globe symbol on the front). I got the hang of its use very quick and typed in several coordinates for some caches. Thing is i knew exactly where the caches were yet the GPS was over 100ft out!?! (no tree cover either!) Is the GPS set up wrong? Can i re calibrate it or something else? Please help as this is getting annoying and we are struggling to find caches! Thanks Paul (The Elliott Clan 2012) Quote Link to comment
+GAZ
Welcome to the obsession that is geocaching! You need your GPSr set to:- hdd°mm.mmm WGS 84 You will find these settings in the "set up", then "units" (I think!) These settings are what Geocaching.com use. Have fun! Quote Link to comment
+Bear and Ragged
You can't 'calibrate' the GPS, but do check you have all the settings correct. eg. Lat/Long HDDD° MM.MMM and the correct Datum WGS84 Well worth a read of Follow the Arrow, written by one of the UK reviewers, especially this page > http://www.follow-the-arrow.co.uk/resources/gps.html#coords Welcome to the mad house that is caching! +TheElliottClan2012
Thanks Both! I have re set my GPS and will try again tomorrow. Are there any caching groups in the north east? +dartymoor
For local groups, perhaps googling your area and geocaching, but there is a trend for local groups to be on Facebook these days. Certainly the south west facebook groups are very active and inclusive. Quote Link to comment
+GAZ
Try Here for the North East Forums. Quote Link to comment
