I havent gone out to find a cache yet,im enjoying reading these forums...i have to say,you are all mad. 60 year old potter fans, argueing over names from the books and geeks admitting to being geeks commenting on how they've read every book...people complaining about 'how someone actually went out to BUY a cache'....do you not think its a waste of life? Writing on a piece of paper and putting it into a rock?

Maybe you should go out and actually give Geocaching a try before you come here and start calling us names. Who knows...you might like it.

For the record, I'm 35, not a Potter fan, and have always been more of a dork than a geek.

Oh, and IBTL.

Well, at least I have my spelling & grammar! :)

I don't know what's worse. That we are entertained by writing on a piece of paper and putting it into a rock or the fact that you use your time to lurk the forums and troll us? I think you are winning, lol. IBTL!

Sorry, you can't write on a piece of paper and put it into the rock, you have to sign the log book that is already in the rock!... If you are going to interlope, at least keep up!!

"Geek"?

Did he imply I'm a geek?

Wow. I've never been called a geek before. That's a step up the geocaching ladder, for sure! :D

This is a bit unfair, laughin (Did you mislay your g somewhere? We could help you find that...), you get to laugh at us and our strange ways but we don't get to poke fun at you and your hobbies. Do you have any? (Apart from wandering around these forums sniggering from time to time.)

I didn't call anyone a geek. Far from it. I am talking about the people on here talking about things other than what the site is about.

Like....exactly what you're doing??

Who let the muggle in here?? <loud whistle> Can someone escort this muggle to the door please?

Like, for instance, this thread?

Really? Think it will get locked? It seems on topic to me (recapping what I've read here this week). I still want to know what brought a non-cacher to the site.

I really think you're right. I have sat back and watched geocachers in action looking for a cache and I swear it's one of the funniest things I have seen. Wandering around in circle, searching in bushes looking like an ostrich with it's head in the sand , trying to be sneaky in a busy muggle area. How about a power trail, now that's funny watching someone jump in and out of the car for miles and mile every 528ft. But I tell you what... I have a blast doing all the above and this is what keeps me from going mad. Not to mention I've met some real good people playing the crazy game and I will probably be friends with them for the rest of my life. So yeah we might be barking mad but there sure is a bunch of us.

I am 22 years old and I just started geocaching... I absolutely love it. Me and many of my longtime friends from middle school geocache all around my area and it is just a blast. So don't knock it before you try it.

Also, do you really care and think it matters that much how "dorky" people are on the forums? I am 22 and I really enjoy Harry Potter as well as Lord of the Rings. Are you also gonna call me a dork because I love the Toy Story movies? It's something I somewhat grew up with. So in that sense I don't see anything wrong with people reading and enjoying certain books or the like.

I am a pretty average college student. Currently working an internship in Chicago, I go to NIU which is a pretty big university in Illinois. I was in a fraternity. I am a pretty sociable person. I am not saying am hot stuff, or the most popular, but people from all walks of life can certainly enjoy this hobby.

It is a hobby like anything else. I think this is an extremely beneficial hobby not only to Geocachers themselves, but to society. It encourages going out and being active. It is a fun, different, safe (usually) activity. Not to mention things like the friendships you make, the places you explore and experience, and even things such as the CITO campaign.

I might not be the most experienced in this hobby, but I really enjoy it already, and i see the comradery of the community even here on the forums. My advice would be, just don't worry about how "crazy" or "dorky" or "weird" people seem on the forums. Just worry about yourself, and as long as no one is getting hurt, then there is no harm. :)

Actualy, you did.

Well isn't this interesting. Read the OP, and then read my post quoted below from about 5 days ago. I think I may indeed be the geek in question. However, I'm not 60. I'm not even 50, although pretty close.

Obviously a kid, or kids, I wouldn't read too much into the Nazi stuff, and say that he needs help or anything. Now if he's doing that when he's like 20 years old or something, yeah, get some help.

Muggles by the way, not Mugglers. I'll bet half the Geocaching community doesn't know the whole Harry Potter connection. I of course am a geek who has read every book, and seen every movie. A fact I don't usually admit publicly, so there you go.

Please don't lump me with those 60 year olds. I've worked hard to get the years I got and I intend to enjoy them. I happen to enjoy walking in the woods and enjoying what little sunshine we get up here in the north wet, and I happen to enjoy finding an odd ammo can or lock n lock in the woods. Much better than what the alternative can be, and I have seen the alternative. Sorry I can't chat more, but I need to go read a couple more Potter chapters. Hmmm, maybe I'll do LOTR tonight. Then I have some time to be geeky with my computer before I have that glass of warm milk.

I am NOT Barking Mad! I'm not a dog person - I'm a cat person! So, maybe, I'm Meowing Mad!?! But that's normal, so there's nothing wrong with me. And that's all I say on the matter. Leaving now and singing this song:

"They're coming to take me away Ha Ha

They're coming to take me away ho ho he he ha ha

to the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time, and I'll be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats

and they're coming to take me away ha ha"

Looks like someone needs to get out of the house for a change, try geocaching, it'll get you out and about or better yet try going out to pick up your bucket of fried chicken instead of paying for delivery.

The site is about everything to do with geocaching, all aspects of geocaching, including the hazards of muggles - and they get mentioned in the HP books (although that's not the origin of the word "muggles", apparently.)

Don't worry - If the forum Moderators consider that we're talking about unsuitable topics they'll lock the thread or transfer it over to that shady, mysterious place - the Off Topic forum.

(The excessive topics promoting various brands of sunglasses that appeared overnight in the Geocoin Forum have already been annihilated, leaving only a puff of pink smoke and the slightest whiff of sanitising fluid.)

I need a life because I am taking an interest in starting geocaching,by looking for other peoples views, yet you are all on the forums too, does that make you lifeless?

Probably not as anything I say on here you complain about

How old are you? And what happened to the name change?

Do you not think it's a waste of life making worthless posts? And by the way, you really should work on your spelling skills.

Can you all read? Im not saying its wrong, dorky or geeky to like harry potter or anything else,i simply said, its funny that people come on here to moan at other peoples names when their names shouldnt matter.

Way to back paddle buddy. Probably the smart thing is to let it die, you got the reaction you wanted and trolled it up. Now if you all excuse me I am off to a woodcarving forum to call them stupid.

There hasn't been much discussion of geocaching since the first sentence of Mrs. B's post. There's been a lot of poo-flinging.

So, move it or lock it? The OP is not a premium member, so that rules out OT.

So, woof woof woof.
