CraftyKel*
Hey Guys, I've had a good browse of this forum and not seen this covered, apologies if I missed a thread. Anyways, we're new cachers and came upon an obstacle yesterday where we couldn't remove the cache from it's container....we realised we needed to carry tweezers with us in future. So, aside from a swapping-swag, pen/pencil and tweezers, what other essential gear might we need to add to our caching kitbag? Thanks, Russ Edited July 24, 2012 by Aeggil Quote Link to comment
+eusty
So, aside from a swapping-swag, pen/pencil and tweezers, what other essential gear might we need to add to our caching kitbag? GPS.... (or spare batteries!) Quote Link to comment
+Straight-Cache-Homey
Spare batteries are definitely a must. The eTrex 20 is awesome but when the "low battery" signal finally flashes you have about 2 minutes until the device shuts off. A little more warning would be great sometime! We're in the middle of the woods! Other than that we experienced your tweezer pain once. Luckily we weren't far from a CVS so just drove over to it, bought a set, signed, replaced, and moved along. Bugspray is a must for me at least. Bugs love to chew on my shaved head. We traded for a mini first aid kit the other day as well. I could see it coming in handy on a hike. Quote Link to comment

+scrapcat
I never cache without my pocket-size digital camera. I will snap a picture before I reach into a dark place. It has saved me from reaching nt a squirrel nest and a bee hive. Remember gloves and a small, powerful flashlight. Quote Link to comment

+T.D.M.22
I have a safety pin on my keyring, with the sharp end slightly bent with some pliers. Excellent for getting logs out of those tight nano's. Lately the little bit of caching I have done, I've taken a couple bottles of water. The heat can really get to you, and if your not careful you could get dehydrated, heat stroke, etc. I'm also carrying muggle cards, and some cards with the local caching group's website on them, lot of people interested lately. +StarBrand
Pen - I carry a Uniball Powertank pen that can write in heat/cold/wet/upside down Flashlight - even during the day can reveal features garden gloves water Hat Quote Link to comment
+DonB
I bought a pair of those wire kitchen grabbers that look like a pair of scissors and remodeled the ends a bit, I have used those several times. I also carry a fairly powerful led flashlight, spare batteries, a leatherman tool, a spare pen, a rare earth magnet and some string, along with some other odds and ends. I put all of my caching tools in an ammo bag I bought at our local Army Navy store, easy to grab and go. Quote Link to comment
+C&Kskirball
We keep a firstaid kit, hand sanitizer, bottle of water (for rinsing dirt covered hands), tweezers, a bottle of rubbing alcohol(can neutralize poison ivy oils), bug repellant, flashlight, extra socks and shoes(incase you have to creek it), and a pad of paper in case of having to do some field math! lol No we dont dont haul all of this to each cache alot stays in the cachemobile unless we think it would be needed at that specific cache site. +Chief301
I always carry a small LED flashlight and a Swiss Army Knife (Super Tinker model) whether caching or not...they've got me through about 90% of the little problems I run into while caching. The SAK comes with tweezers, of course, which I have used many times to fish the log scroll out of nano caches. I do like the safety pin idea, though. When I'm going out for a day of caching I'll usually add a Gerber multi tool and a pair of leather work gloves to my kit. Also a Fisher Bullet Space Pen. I don't usually bring a pack or anything, all this stuff goes in the pockets of my 5.11 pants. Edited July 28, 2012 by Chief301 Quote Link to comment

ll JK ll
I used to carry a lot of stuff in a hiking backpack but after long hikes it's uncomfortable so I switched out the backpack for a UTG messenger bag, kinda like the Versipacks in the Groundspeak shop. I carry: - iPhone for pics - GPSr (PN-60) - extra batteries - a minor first-aid kit - emergency ponchos - spare socks - freezer bag full of general swag - small container with primo trade items - geocaching info cards - two spare micro containers - spare log sheets - ink pens Also on my keychain I have a Leatherman Micra and a Streamlight nano flashlight Quote Link to comment
